Visiting the National Parks of Utah

Kelly Banaski Sons
Utah is the perfect vacation spot for outdoor enthusiasts. The state boasts five national parks with ample opportunities for all things outdoors. Hiking, biking, camping and fishing are just the tip of the mountain in this state full of natural sandstone arches and canyons carved out by the Colorado and Green rivers. Sightseeing through these vast parks is accessible by car, foot and horseback. Grand rock formations, spectacular cliffs and a plethora of wildlife are waiting to be explored.

Arches National Park
Only at this park will you find the worlds largest concentration of natural stone arches, according to Utah.com. (http://www.utah.com/nationalparks/) There are 73,000 acres in this dry, red desert of a park. Sandstones, made by years of sand and dirt eroding away at the rocky surfaces dot the entire area. They are in every shape and size from small fins to towering spires, including the parks most famous landmark, the Delicate Arch. On the hike up to Delicate Arch you gain 1.5 miles in elevation, pass a hundred year old cabin and myriad creatures of the wild.

Arches National Park offers opportunities for camping, hiking, biking and off roading. Salt Valley and Willow Flats, near the park, are unpaved and perfect for 4X4's and all terrain vehicles.

Bryce Canyon National Park
In Bryce Canyon you'll see thousands of rock spirals jetting up from the dry earth is tones of pink, red orange and green. Thousands upon thousands of years of windswept geological mayhem has caused this terrain to reveal stark stone structures throughout the park. The amphitheater is the most visited attraction in the park for its view of the spires and the surrounding cliffs and canyons. There is a campground within this park as well as a general store and the Bryce Lodge. The views from this parks amphitheater and many cliff edges have been the focus of very famous photos and paintings. Fairyland Point showcases the sinking ship stone formation and some of the most scenic drives in the state.

Canyonlands National Park
The Canyonlands National Park is for the rough and rugged outdoorsman. Filled with some of the roughest terrain in Utah the trails and paths are not for the inexperienced hiker. Challenging 4X4 riding is the order of the day as well as difficult white water rafting and strenuous walking trails. Rock climbing is a popular activity here. The steep canyon walls are perfect. This park consists of five different regions that are impossible for direct travel. The jagged landscape makes it impossible. Horseback riding is the best form of travel in this terrain to maneuver the wilderness and experience the natural wonders present.

Visiting the national parks of Utah is an experiment in nature. It is a view of this countries most beautiful natural structures. When the crowded amusement parks and long lines have lost their appeal a trip to the national parks of Utah is the answer.
