Visiting Northern Minnesota?

There Are so Many Exciting Places that You Will Not Want to Miss on Your Next Trip North!

K Jolin
Northern Minnesota is such an amazing place in America. Though many people have yet to hear of the wonderful nature there, but once you visit you'll keep coming back! The appeal of the northwood country life will grab any person's heart whether you love nature or not. My first trip to northern Minnesota was in the fall of 1999, and every year since I have made 3-4 trips back each summer. There are a few places that I feel every person should visit at some point in their life. In this article I will list my favorite places in Northern Minnesota, and I hope you will try to visit at least one of my favorite spots soon.

My all time favorite place in Minnesota is Duluth. Duluth is the home to the largest fresh water port in America. There is so much to do in Duluth, that I can simply not list them all. The only accurate description I can give of Duluth is that it is an amazing town that everyone should visit! My favorite place in Duluth is Canal Park. Located on the front of the canal, Canal Park is loaded with unique restaurants, fun gift shops and luxurious hotels. You can walk the boardwalk, bike, rent a bike coach to hold 4, or even take a horse drawn carriage through Canal Park. The views of Lake Superior are amazing and you can even see a large sea vessel coming in if you have the right timing. There is a lighthouse you can walk out to and a drawbridge that is fun to watch. The atmosphere of Canal Park is so much fun and you'll leave as you plan for your next trip!

The entire North Shore of Lake Superior is lined with small towns and unique resorts. The charisma of the northwoods is replicated through log cabins, wildlife décor and the Minnesota state bird- the loon. You can drive up to any of these small towns and find enough activities to spend the weekend. Some of my favorite towns include Lutsen and Tofte. Tofte is home to Bluefin Bay Resorts, a top pick on my list. Bluefin Bay is rated as one of Minnesota's most romantic resorts and makes an excellent honeymoon or anniversary choice. Lutsen has many resorts, most known for Lutsen Mountain, a ski resort. Obviously you can't ski in the summer, but there are plenty of summer activities including a gondola, Nordic sled track and golf.

My last top pick of Northern Minnesota sites to see is Taylors Falls. Taylors Falls is located along the St. Croix River. Taylors Falls is only an hour's drive from the cities, so next time you are in Minneapolis or St. Paul; take the scenic drive to this quaint town. Somehow in history there were many whirlpools that spun along this part of the river. There are many signs of the whirlpools and even one that has a staircase leading down to the pit. Watch your step, the rocks have been carved by hundred of whirlpools that left pits all over! There are miles and miles of hiking paths through the Minnesota State Park System that will leave you with many breath taking views and lasting memories.

As you can tell, I love this region of America. The peacefulness of the woods can not be found anywhere else, and it cannot be replicated. This is one part of America that I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a fun summer vacation.
