Visiting Rome

A Guide for the Budget Traveler

Chelsea Hoffman
Many people fantasize about going on an exotic Italian vacation, but very few people get to make this dream a reality because they don't realize that even families or couples on a shoe-string budget, can enjoy an amazing retreat to the beautiful Italian city of Rome. The following article will outline and explain the high points of budget traveling, as well as share some valuable information on which hot-spots in Rome will save you a bundle of money. You can vacation in complete luxury, and still keep your check book in the green.

The first step in planning your fantasy vacation, is to find the proper airline to fly with, and also make hotel reservations. There is a variety of sources that offer discount airfare, as well as hotel booking, and some even offer package deals that include airfare, hotel reservations, and car rental. However, it is probably best to stay away from package deals on the internet, because most of the best deals will not be popular places that are frequented by tourists, therefore, discount websites wont be of very much assistance. A very good example in this case would be the Anglo Americano (www.angloamericanohotel.com). The Anglo Americano Hotel is only a short distance from the center of Rome, and was built in as early as the 17th century. Today it is an elegant, and budget friendly hotel establishment, catering to tourists who want to experience true Roman class, without having to break their bank accounts. It is hard to find any information about this hotel, other than it's official website, but it is definitely worth the stay, and is extremely light on the wallet. Bring a friend, or the entire family, and save your money for the dining, shopping, and recreation that Rome has to offer.

You've saved a little money from getting discount airfare, and you've booked a few nights at the Anglo Americano, so now you can relax, and enjoy your vacation the way you should, in style. Rome is home to over three thousand eating establishments, boutiques, and other types of shopping facilities, all ranging from five star quality with five star prices, all the way down to fast food dining for mere pocket change. The wide variety of shopping centers will keep you so busy, you may forget to eat, which is just as well, because you will save so much money, you can splurge and actually enjoy an elegent and high class dining experience with some of your surplus travel funds, as a special treat just for you! One of the most enjoyable places to experience both shopping and dining, is the Pantheon and Via Del Governo Vecchio, which is part of the gigantic shopping district of Rome. This part of the disctrict is popular for it's narrow streets lit by torch lanterns, and after hour shopping. It is also the part of the shopping district that is widely known for it's second-hand boutiques, where you can find high fashion items, and expensive gifts, for a fraction of the costs elswhere.

Finally, after you've gotten all the shopping you desire out of the way, and you're done lounging around your hotel room, you may want to experience some of the beautiful and monumental sites that Rome has to offer. One of the best things about vacationing in Rome, or any other part of Europe for that matter, is the fact that you can do almost any sight seeing you want, for either free, or very close to it. Many of the local museums offer daily tours that are at a discounted price and sometimes even free, especially if you bring your family. Otherwise, you can explore the glorious Roman countryside, and take in everything this beautiful destination has to offer.
