Do they help us feel better
Or make us feel less?
Do we throw out the bottle
Or hold it to bless?
Each person speaks from
Their own experience
And whatever they report
Is rarely a guess.
It depends on who you ask,
Whether the medicine helps alleviate
Suffering
Of merely serves as a mask.
Prozac was the first one well known
And the first to become generic;
Fluoxetine is the cheaper version
Not uncommonly encapsulated
Within coating of enteric
To slow down the absorption
And lengthen the result,
Those who take it and promote it
Oft accuse anti-medicine
Zealots and cynics
Of being part of a
Self-described organic but
Denial-ridden cult.
What is right for one
Is not right for all.
The presumption that it is
Otherwise
Has led to a good deal
Of tyranny
And to many a fall.
There is a difference between
Medicine medicating
And
Healers with prescription pads
Who are just a bit too sure
Being experienced
As righteously
And at times mistakenly
Dictating.
When it comes to feeling better,
One size simply does not fit all,
But all efforts require
The will of a person
To be and do better
And the wisdom and humility
To know when some help needs
To be called.

Great!
Well said, and in rhyme too :)
Shooting dice and taking pills are not my games of choice.
It's true, we are each so different. That difference really plays out when it comes to medications. I personally have had great results with SSRI meds, but I do understand not everyone has a positive result. Different, indeed!
I avoid them if possible. Sometimes a person can't and when that happens then I dose, minimal usage regardless.
I am definitely a "minimalist" when it comes to using drugs... take the absolute minimum needed to solve the problem. I do think doctors tend to over-prescribe at times. A pill is not always the best solution, especially when it comes to dealing with psychological issues.
fantastic work! - I am so exceptional, I really need nothing further:) On a serious note, I understand that sometimes people have to take pills for one reason or another.
When these drugs are needed, hopefully the right one is the first choice and in generic form, please!
I agree. Good for one, destruction for another.
