Visiting Stonehenge

Maddie Wells
When I was studying abroad in London, England in 2005, me and a couple of my fellow abroaders decided to take a day trip to Salisbury and Stonehenge. We took the train to Salisbury (which is a cute little town) before grabbing the tour bus to Stonehenge.

Even though it's been over five years, I vividly remember the bus driving through the countryside towards the famous site. We could see a rainstorm in the distance... and then it wasn't so distant! But by the time we arrived to park, the rain stopped!

We entered the area which had gift shops all around... and then there it was. This amazing site in the middle of nowhere in the English countryside. There is a fence surrounding the structure so you can't get that close to it, but you can walk around and take pictures. It was a beautiful site, with the stones, the gray clouds in the distance. It was hard to imagine how people so many years ago, before technology, put Stonehenge together.

I left Stonehenge in awe, and also satisfied that I crossed another famous site off my to-visit list.

I would highly recommend Stonehenge to anyone visiting England (or even if you live in England!) It's something worth seeing in person, and the pictures don't do it justice!
