Visitor's Guide to Heritage Green in Greenville, South Carolina

Greenville's arts and cultural campus, the Heritage Green is the city's center of public cultural resources and one of the first places everyone should stop by when getting familiar with Greenville, South Carolina. The Green is located right along College Street in downtown Greenville, and there is plenty of off street parking available for a small fee. Here is an introduction to the five jewels of the Heritage Green: Hughes Main Library, Greenville Little Theater, Greenville County Museum of Art, Upcountry History Museum and The Children's Museum.

Hughes Main Library

The second largest library int the state of South Carolina, Hughes Main Library is worth checking out even if you don't particularly need any fresh reading material. It's a beautiful three story building with lots of open air and natural light, plus all of the modern computer facilities that today's citizens require to get the job done.

Greenville Little Theater

Greenville Little Theater is the place to be if your idea of great theater involves plenty of singing, costumes and set design. The theater is also home to Studio 444, where emerging writers, directors and actors collaborate for some alternative works.

Greenville County Museum of Art

With considerable focus on artists who are either from or have been touched by South Carolina, the Greenville County Museum of Art is both an opportunity to enjoy some fine works of art as well as sample of the wide spectrum of cultural backgrounds and insights that inform the visual arts of the region. The museum also has many community events and programs that are worth investigating.

Upcountry History Museum

The mission the Upcountry History Museum is to "promote, present and preserve the history of Upcountry South Carolina," which the accomplish with exhibits, oral histories, academic presentations and a wide variety of programs. The programs range from folk craft and war history to geology and linguistics. The museum also has a summer program for young people who are eager to learn about the region they call home.

The Children's Museum

Although the Children's Museum isn't quite open to the public just yet, it will be opening sometime this year. When it opens, visitors will find a colorful and inviting museum packed with interactive exhibits and programs geared toward empowering kids and widening their view of themselves and the world around them. Currently scheduled to finally open this coming August.
