Vitamin D May Prevent Asthma Attacks

According to a WebMD article, raising your Vitamin D intake so that you are not Vitamin D deficient may help alleviate some of the symptoms of asthma. Vitamin D has already been linked to helping to prevent other health issues such as Osteoporosis. Now it is found that it may possibly also help with asthma. This is just another case that shows the importance of getting enough of this vitamin to help prevent health problems. Vitamin D may not obliterate asthma, but asthma patients can find relief from some very serious symptoms that are associated with it.

Asthma tends to get worse in the winter. The connection to this and vitamin D is that in the summer, we are exposed to the sun more which makes our bodies produce more vitamin D. This link could be the answer that we have been looking for to alleviate the symptoms of asthma for patients who are suffering from it. People with breathing problems know that wheezing and coughing are more likely to happen during the winter months. Could it be that you are vitamin D deficient.

Adding more Vitamin D to your diet can help alleviate so many different health problems that it doesn't make sense not to make sure that you have enough of it in your system. You can easily find out from your doctor whether or not you are vitamin D deficient and ask him/her for advice on how you can better maintain the correct amount of Vitamin D in your diet. Even though this study doesn't give concrete evidence that Vitamin D will help asthmatic patients, the circumstantial evidence is overwhelming. The bottom line is that it can't hurt you to take more vitamin D. It can only help you where your health is concerned overall. That makes giving a try worth it.

Parents can benefit from this information as well. During the winter months, it is important that everyone consider taking vitamin D supplements and for parents to give their children vitamin D supplements to help alleviate the problems associated with asthma. It is thought that the vitamin may even help prevent asthma from occurring in the first place. Most people have a vitamin D deficiency at some point in their lives. It is also known that vitamin D deficiencies are less likely to occur in the summer months when children are out playing and adults are working in the yard. Sunshine is a good thing on many levels. Vitamin D is just one of those levels. However, children and adults can't get outside as much in the winter months, therefore, a vitamin D supplement will help replace some of which is lost during the winter months.

Vitamin D is indeed our friend. From helping your fingernails to look healthier to stronger bones and then to asthma, you can't argue that vitamin D doesn't help you live a much healthier life. Most people don't want to take a lot of medications throughout their lives. Vitamin D isn't a medication though. It is something that we need in our lives everyday. Consider taking a vitamin D supplement and parents, make sure your kids are getting enough of the vitamin that could, in essence, save your child's life. Asthma is a very serious health condition that can, in the right circumstances, kill. It just isn't worth the risk.
