Vitamin D3 - "The Sunshine Vitamin"

Can We Get Nutrition from the Sun?

Liz Gamble
For the past twenty years, doctors have been reporting the disadvantages of being in sunlight, and for twenty years disease in our nation has multiplied exponentially. We are more unhealthy than ever. Cancer is at an all time high, and in the number one position is heart disease. Obesity ranks high in every high school and has overtaken the adult population, too. The medical field can't seem to figure out why this is occurring. Every year they come out with a new vaccine that to stop the common cold or virus, and yet, these same doctors are talking against the most natural disease fighter that we have, Vitamin D.

Vitamin D in its natural form comes from sunlight. If you live in an area where the sun is out almost everyday, this is the best way to get Vitamin D. 15 - 20 minutes is all it takes, but a ½ hour is even better. The sunlight is absorbed into the layers of skin where it is transformed into the life-giving vitamin D, and then is distributed throughout the body in the blood. Typically, that ½ hour in the sun would be enough to last a day or two, and then you would need another dose of sunshine.

Take a minute and look at all the health giving properties of Vitamin D - this vitamin is amazing! Vitamin D is actually split into five sub-categories - D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5. D2 and D3 are the most beneficial to us, and D3 is actually the best. This is the one you want to look for when you go to find a supplement.

Vitamin D affects over 3000 of the 6000 pieces of your DNA. Vitamin D is good for inflammatory problems, supporting immune building, rejuvenating the skin and keeping the bowels cleaned and healthy. People who have adequate levels of D3 are known to show a lower risk of cancer and of not developing rheumatism or multiple sclerosis. By adding more D3 to the diet, asthma has been lowered. Vitamin D, in general, supports the living functions of your body and promotes healing. It is the Vitamin of Life.

To get vitamin D from the sun, you don't need to layout in the sun to absorb it. It's funny, we think we have to be still, but if you are walking to work or riding your bicycle on a sunny day, you are absorbing Vitamin D from the sun! For some, this might mean taking your lunch outdoors and eating in the park, or taking a walk on your lunch break. If the sunlight is touching your skin, then your body is producing Vitamin D, and just 15-20 minutes a day is enough.

Fifteen years ago, doctors waged an all out war declaring how bad direct sunlight was for the skin, calling it the preemptor of cancer. Consider the source. Those remarks come from the same association that couldn't make up their mind about an egg - the perfect protein. They declared eggs dangerous, and then rescinded it. Then they warned us to eat only two a week, and now they report the coast is clear - we can eat eggs again! This is all said 'tongue in cheek' because a few of us knew the scam, and knew the medical association made millions on this 'cholesterol scare.'

Looking at the sunshine scare, was this much different? What did it effect? Our health, of course, and how many millions, no, billions of dollars has the medical association made by treating the many who are diseased because they received no Vitamin D? You have to look at the source, and the motive, when something as natural as the sun is condemned by the ones who would benefit the most in not having it. You have to trust in your instincts, and then good research to lead you to health-giving nutrients.

But what if you live in a northern climate, or it's winter when the UV rays are much shorter? Then you will need to supplement with Vitamin D3 capsules, which are easily found in health food stores. About 1000mg a day will keep you up to speed. You can double that if you have some infection or sickness.

Everyone should be somewhat concerned about how much Vitamin D3 they are getting because it is essential for good health. Of course, all things in moderation is the rule, so don't overdo the sun. You can receive the right amount, just 1000mg a day by tablet and the benefits will far outweigh your neglecting it.
