Vitamin A
Vitamin A is essential to repair and maintenance of skin tissue. Topical Vitamin A could also help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It is also used for treatment of certain skin problems such as acne and other blemishes.
This vitamin is also essential to nail growth. The lack of Vitamin A could be the cause of those dry and brittle nails.
Vitamin B Complex
Vitamin B2, also known as Riboflavin, helps to promote healthy nails. Lack of Vitamin B12, or Cobalamin, may be the cause of your darkening nails or dryness.
Lack of the B vitamin called Biotin could cause dermatitis. Another B Vitamin called Niacin helps to retain moisture in the skin. In cream form, this vitamin may also have anti-inflammatory agents.
Vitamin C
A lack of Vitamin C may cause hangnails, deformed nails, and the tendency to bruise easily. The vitamin works by reducing skin damage caused by harmful byproducts of smoke, pollution, and the sun.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E in combination with Vitamin A may reduce the production of common skin cancer cells. Taking alone, it may reduce the risk of sun damage on the skin. It also has the tendency to reduce the appearance of some wrinkles and therefore making the skin feel, and look, smoother.
The lack of Vitamin E may cause varicose veins to become inflamed. In addition, it may cause early signs of aging, acne, and the slow healing of wounds.
When used in combination with Vitamin C in lotion form, this vitamin is highly effective at protecting against sun damage.
Vitamin K
Vitamin K is most often sufficiently supplied in any diet, therefore finding a pill supplement for the vitamin is nearly impossible. Most multi-vitamins, or once daily vitamins, do not contain Vitamin K.
In topical form, the vitamin works to reduce under eye circles and bruises. In combination with Vitamin A, Vitamin K becomes even more effective on treating the dark circles that appear under the eye.
Minerals
Additionally minerals are also beneficial to skin and nails but most information suggests that supplementing minerals is not necessary because we take in enough of them in daily routines.
Calcium, Iodine, Iron, and Zinc can all be beneficial to nail strength, growth, and overall nail condition.
Selenium, Zinc, Copper, Alpha-lipoic Acid, and Essential Fatty Acids can be beneficial in reducing damage to the skin and to overall skin condition improvements.
