Vivasuzi Thinks These Are the 10 Best Scheming Movies that I've Seen!
If You like Detailed Plots, and Lots of Twists and Turns, Watch These 10 Movies!
1) A very detailed scheme will be carried out over the course of the movie with many intricate parts to the plan that make it so you are never 100% sure how they are going to pull it off but you are real excited to find out!
2) You never know for sure who to believe or trust. The good guy could be the bad guy, and you wouldn't know it until they released that info to you! This means you really have to pay attention.
3) Finally, all the scheming movies I like involved sarcasm and humor that only those criminals can have :) This goes along with #2 in that you never know who to trust, but it also makes it more interesting to watch.
So here are my top 10 OC movies in no particular order!
1) Ocean's Eleven (2001) George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts
In this movie Danny Ocean is released from prison at the start, and then decides he's ready to try another major hit. He wants to rob not 1, but 3 casinos. He proposes this idea to a few of his old crime buddies who all think he is nuts...but he eventually gathers 11 men to help him with this task. The scheming comes in as they have to plan this whole thing detail by detail and from start to finish you are never quite sure if they are going to pull it off! Ocean's Twelve is also a very good watch! Ocean's Thirteen is pretty good too!
My fav quotes/scenes:
Rusty: You'd need at least a dozen guys doing a combination of cons.
Danny: Like what, do you think?
Rusty: Off the top of my head, I'd say you're looking at a Boeski, a Jim Brown, a Miss Daisy, two Jethros and a Leon Spinks, not to mention the biggest Ella Fitzgerald ever!
Danny: Ten oughta do it, don't you think? You think we need one more? You think we need one more. All right, we'll get one more.
Danny: It's never been tried.
Reuben: Ho, ho..."It's never been tried." It's been tried. A few guys even came close. You know the three most successful robberies in the history of Vegas?
[Here Reuben goes to describe 3 times where someone attempted to rob a casino and they show flashbacks which are really pretty funny.]
Rusty: Why do this?
Danny: Why not do it?
[Rusty shakes his head]
Danny: Cause yesterday I walked out of the joint after losing four years of my life and you're cold-decking "Teen Beat" cover boys.
[pause]
Danny: Cause the house always wins. Play long enough, you never change the stakes. The house takes you. Unless, when that perfect hand comes along, you bet big, then you take the house.
Rusty: Been practicing this speech, haven't you?
Danny: Little bit. Did I rush it? Felt I rushed it.
Rusty: No, it was good, I liked it. The "Teen Beat" thing was harsh.
2) The Italian Job (2003) Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Ed Norton
In the Italian Job a group of cons come up with the perfect plan to steal Gold. The plan goes flawless right at the start of the movie, but then one of their own crew turns on them! Shoots at them! and takes off with all the Gold... now the scheme changes to "get him back" and to get the Gold. It's one group of thieves vs another thief in this very exciting movie!
My fav quotes/scenes:
[Lyle isn't answering Charlie's calls]
Handsome Rob: He only answers to "The Napster" now, Charlie
Charlie Croker: Oh, no. I am not calling you The Napster.
Lyle: Why not? You call him Left Ear.
Left Ear: Well, I am.
Lyle: And him Handsome Rob.
Charlie Croker: Well, that's because he is Handsome Rob!
Left Ear: This dude got dogs. I don't do dogs... I had a real bad experience, man.
Charlie Croker: What happened?
Left Ear: I HAD. a BAD. Experience. Dang it. I'M deaf.
[Lyle is impersonating Handsome Rob and the cable girl as he watches them talk from a distance.]
Lyle:

3) Mickey Blue Eyes (1999) Hugh Grant, James Caan, Jeanne Tripplehorn
In this movie, Michael, a nice English auctioneer, falls in love with Gina...who he knows little about. As he wants to marry her, he soon finds out that her father is a major mobster. He gets caught up in the schemes as everyone is out to kill everyone else and just like every movie in this list, you don't know who's on what side until the very end!
My fav quotes/scenes:
[Frank is trying to teach Michael to talk like a mobster]
Frank Vitale: Here, try this, "Hey, fuggeddabout it!"
Michael Felgate: Hey, forget about it!
Frank Vitale: No, like this, "Hey, fuggeddabout it!" Change your T's to D's.
Michael Felgate: Hey, fuggeddaboud id!
Frank Vitale: Id?
Michael Felgate: You said change Ts to Ds!
Frank Vitale: Not the last one!
Gina Vitale: Just stop. Otherwise, I can't go on. Just run normally.
Michael Felgate: I am running normally.
Gina Vitale: Oh. Right. I'm sorry. I thought, you know... I guess I haven't seen you run before and I thought you were doing a funny run.
Michael Felgate: A funny run? That's my run.
Michael Felgate:
4) The Whole Nine Yards (2000) Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry, Natasha Henstridge
"Oz" is a dentist living in Canada with his French wife who is... a word I can't say. At the start of the movie they get a new neighbor and learn that he is Jimmy the Tulip, a hit man for the mob. His wife convinces Oz to go to Chicago and turn Jimmy into the mob for a finder's fee. However there's way more to it than that. For one, Oz actually kind of likes Jimmy, and for two, Oz's wife wants more than just a finders fee. Throughout you are once again wondering who is on what side, and is Oz choosing to side with the right people? The Whole Ten Yards is also very very good :)
My fav quotes/scenes:
Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski: It's not important how many people I've killed. What's important is how I get along with the people who are still alive.
I don't want to ruin this part for you, but pay close attention to the part where Oz and Frankie are back in Canada and Frankie tells him to go back to his hotel with him for safety...the next scene is so hilarious that I stayed up til 2 last night just to see it again :)
Janni Gogolack: I vant you to understand, when it comes to Yimmy Tudeski, we're not talking about a human being. We're talking about a rodent! We're talking about wermin!
[pause]
Janni Gogolack: Where was I?
Nicholas "Oz" Oseransky: Wermin, I think. Wermin.
5) The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo, Denis Leary
Thomas Crown is a rich man who steals for fun, not for money. In this story he steals a painting...or does he? You'll never really know until the very end (which is absolutely the best ending!) Catherine is trying to break him, but also finds her self attracted to him. Will he admit he has the painting? Does he have it? If so... where is it hidden? If not... who does have it? These many questions will not be answered until the very end!
My fav quotes/scenes:
The Psychiatrist: Has it occurred to you that you have a problem with trust?
Thomas Crown: [smirking] I trust myself implicitly.
The Psychiatrist: But can other people trust you?
Thomas Crown: Oh, you mean society at large?
The Psychiatrist: I mean women, Mr.Crown.
Thomas Crown: Yes, a women could trust me.
The Psychiatrist: Good, under what extraordinary circumstances would you allow that to happen?
Thomas Crown: A women could trust me as long as their interests didn't run counter to my own.
6) Catch Me if you Can (2002) Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken
In this story, a young man of only 19 years old manages to scam out millions of dollars, pretend to be an airline pilot, and escape multiple captures as he travels around the country. This is based on a true story of a true teenage mastermind which is part of the reason it is so exciting. The young boy is able to get away even when you think it's over for him...will he ever be caught???
My fav quotes/scenes:
Paula Abagnale: Just tell me how much he owes and I'll pay you back.
Carl Hanratty: So far, it's about 1.3 million dollars.
Frank Abagnale, Jr.: Brenda, I don't want to lie to you anymore. All right? I'm not a doctor. I never went to medical school. I'm not a lawyer, or a Harvard graduate, or a Lutheran. Brenda, I ran away from home a year and a half ago when I was 16.
Brenda Strong: Frank? Frank? You're not a Lutheran?
Frank Abagnale, Jr.: Stop chasing me!
Carl Hanratty: I can't stop, it's my job.
7) Heartbreakers (2001) Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ray Liotta
How about one for the ladies! Heartbreakers is a story of a mother and daughter team that travel around the country tricking men into marrying them...and then tricking them into cheating on them...and then taking everything! These two ladies have it down to a science, until one day where the daughter starts to fall in love... you'll have to see the rest for yourself!
My fav quotes/scenes:
Jack Withrowe: Hi, can I get you a drink?
Page Conners: Wow! I've never heard that one before. You really blow me away with your creativity.
Jack Withrowe: Well, I...
Page Conners: Well, I, uh- you're recovery's even better! Do you even care at all who I am? I mean, I could be the Antichrist or have the intelligence of a thermos but unfortunately *those* are not the matters the male penis ponders
[looks pointedly at Jack's crotch]
Page Conners: . So please, tell me, why did you walk all the way over here to ask to get me a drink?
Jack Withrowe: Well, because... I'm the bartender.
8) Collateral (2004) Tom Cruise, Jamie Fox, Jada Pinkett Smith
Max is a cab driver who picks up the wrong man...Vincent is a man who's out to kill the witnesses involved in a trial. Of course Max has no idea who he's picking up until they make their first stop. People start turning up dad, and Max is afraid that if he runs he will die also, but staying doesn't mean he'll live...so what can a cab driver do late at night when no one's watching? Just keep driving!
My fav quotes/scenes:
Max: Well what did he do to you?
Vincent: What?
Max: What did he do to *you*?
Vincent: Nothing. I only met him tonight.
Max: You just met him once and you killed him like that?
Vincent: What? I should only kill people after I get to know them?
Max: I'm not taking you to see my mother.
Vincent: Since when was any of this negotiable?
9) The Score (2001) Robert De Niro, Ed Norton, Marlon Brando
Hmmm...another Ed Norton movie. Nick is a retired criminal mastermind, Max is his ex-partner in crime who comes back to beg for one last hit. They want to steal a priceless French sceptre, whatever that is! The problem is that throughout the movie you can tell everyone is trying to get there first and everyone is trying to get the whole prize to themselves. Who will in fact "score"?? You'll have to see!
My fav quotes/scenes:
Steven's Mother: Steven, who are you talking to at this hour?
Steven: [covering the phone] I am having a civil *** conversation with one of my friends, Mother
Max: I got a minor development. We lost the buyer.
Nick: Lost, what do you mean lost?
Max: Well she's in a brass casket 6 feet under ground never to be heard from again.
10) Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) Nicolas Cage, Giovanni Ribisi, Angelina Jolie
Randall is an ex-car thief....his brother Kip is a new-car thief who screws up a deal so bad that Randall is forced to get involved. Now they have the task to steal 50 unique and exotic cars with only a few days to do so. They gather a small team to help them out. To make it even more difficult, the cops are keeping a close eye on Randall as they don't trust him at all... will they pull off the deal? Or will they all be killed? Watch and see!
My fav quotes/scenes:
Freb: You ever feel bad about any of this?
Donny: Hell, no. I'm Robin Hood, man. I rob from the rich and give to the needy.
Freb: You mean the poor.
Donny: No, like I said, the needy. 'Cause brother, we need this car.
Memphis: [Gesturing to Sway] Still looking amazing.
Sway: While *you*... still look like a bible salesman.
Memphis: [Reaching out and touching her forehead] You're healed.
