According to MTV News, Janet Jackson will begin the show with a huge tribute to Michael Jackson. The New York Daily News reported that Janet, who collaborated with her late brother on the song and video for "Scream," will be perform at the VMAs. Before the show, MTV's general manager Stephen Friedman said that Janet had been in talks with MTV about the tribute performance for some time. He said, "She's working with well-known choreographers who've all worked with Michael, as well as the dancers who were going to be on Micheal's tour, In a sense, she's carrying on her brother's legacy."
Gil Duldulao, who is Janet Jackson's creative partner, directed the MTV Video Music Awards tribute to Jackson. The famous choreographers, Dave Scott, Cris Judd, Brian Friedman, Wade Robson, Tyce Diorio, Travis Payne, Jeri Slaughter, Laurie Ann Gibson, Mia Michaels and Tina Landon, will join Janet on stage for the tribute.
"This Is It" footage
The documentary features never-before seen footage of Jackson rehearsing and preparing for what would have been his comeback tour; a series of 50 sold out concerts. The footage in "This Is It" was recorded in the three months before the late pop legend's untimely death in June. When Jackson announced his comeback in March 2009, he made a rare appearance before fans and said, "This is it. These will be my final shows in London. This is it. I mean it, because, I don't know...I will be performing the songs my fans want to hear. This is the final curtain call."
"This Is It" movie tickets
Tickets for this is it go on sale on September 27, 2009. The film will run for two weeks, nationwide, beginning on October 28, 2009.
Collectors DVDs and soundtrack
According to "Rolling Stone," after the film's theater run, Sony Pictures will release a "Director's Cut DVD, two special-edition DVDs and a 'This Is It soundtrack'." The sound track is rumored to feature a "brand new Jackson song."
3d Footage?
According to "Variety," the "This Is It" documentary was going to include 3D clips that were filmed for the actual "This Is It" concerts, but because of contract rules, the film had to be shorter than 150 minutes. Since Sony Pictures has the rights to the footage, they will release special edition DVDs with exclusive scenes. It is rumored, but unconfirmed at this time, that the DVDs may feature the extra 3D footage from the concerts.
