We live in age of instant communication and the faster you get your information out, the better. People no longer view full sentences or even proper grammar as useful none the less needed. With new inventions such as Twitter and text messages, there are so many new acronyms and shortened words that it is hard to keep up with. There seems to be more and more new words everyday, here is a simple guide to get you started to understanding everything that is out there that seems not understandable.

OMG - Oh my god or Oh my gosh
LOL - Lots of love
lol - Laugh out loud (often confused with LOL)
ROTFL - Rolling on the floor laughing
WE - Whatever
a4d - Afford
gr8 - Great
tmw - Tomorrow
BFF - Best friends forever
LYLAS - Love you like a sister
LYLAB - Love you like a brother
AFAIK - As far as I know
A/S/L - Age, sex, location
GTG - Got to go
PC - Peace, as a goodbye
HOAS - Hold on a second
Poss - Possibly
IDK - I don't care
msg - Message
Thnx - Thank you
jk - Just kidding
LMAO - Laughing my ass off
bbm - Blackberry message
MYOB - Mind your own business
nm u - Not much, you?
PPL - People
txt - Text

Now obviously there are a ton more acronyms and abbreviations that are used in chatting on line and text messaging, but this is just a simple guide to the most commonly used ones (as of now). There are plenty of websites out there that will help you understand more of these. Understanding all of these is not really crucial to your survival in the world, but if you are a big twitterer, then these are your livelihood for getting out your updates and reading others.
