Voice Recognition Software May Reduce Repetitive Stress Injury

One Solution to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Repetitive Stress Injury

Like lots of other folks across the globe, I work in an office setting that requires the use of a computer.

I can easily say that I have been doing the computer thing as a central part of my work more or less continuously for the last 20 years. While sometimes it's great fun, the time has finally come for the downside of repetitive motion to rear its ugly head.

Varied Work Conditions

Despite varying my work conditions, working while standing up, while seated, while using a mouse, while not using a mouse (a touchpad instead), time has finally caught up with me. In recent weeks I am starting to feel an annoying twinge of pain on the top of my right hand. It shows up whenever I use the scroll button on my mouse.

I wanted to share with you was one solution that has helped. It involves getting rid of the use of one's hands almost completely. While not an absolute solution, it does offer some relief from repetitive stress injury while using a PC.

This solution is... voice recognition software.

Voice Recognition Software: A Solution for Repetitive Stress Injury

Aside from the productivity benefits that voice recognition software offers, I see it now as a partial solution to the pain I am experiencing in my hand.

As I write this article, I am resting both hands in my lap as I speak into a microphone as the words appear on the screen before me. By reducing the use of my hands in this manner over the last several days, the irritation I had been feeling has almost completely subsided.

While I still need to use my hand with the computer on occasion, the amount of times I need to raise my hand to the keyboard or the mouse is reduced significantly.

I cannot get over how helpful it has been with freeing up my hands and thus allowing me to "type" much faster. The added benefit of reducing pain from repetitive stress injury is a welcome plus to anyone's lifestyle!

I've written about voice recognition software a couple times already. Read up on this by clicking here.
