Voluntarily Lost: A Poem

Scott Bauer
Emancipate my mind

Unchain my brain

Pull it above reality

Set it adrift on the waters of fate

Let the raven rip it from my body

And carry it to the impossible heights

Where my flesh cannot go

But yet my mind can see

Placed upon the summit of imagination

I view unknown ideals

Forgotten tales and unwritten sagas

And I am alone

For this is how I want it

Uncomplicated and placid

Knowledge comes as a lover in the night

To the lonely and exiled

Time reels the mind back

Down through the fog and smoke

Of reality and despair

Too brief was the vacation

Oh how I long

To be alone

In that mythical imagination universe

Where I am truly myself
