The lights, the crowds laughing, holiday parties and of course gifts. These make wonderful memories and we look forward to the Christmas season each year.
Christmas is also a time that can be very sad and depressing for those that are sick, missing a loved one, or no one to share the holidays.
Here in the Atlanta Metro Area we have a number of ways to volunteer to help others have a Merry Christmas. Below I have a few suggestions for ways to volunteer at local Christmas charities.
The Children's Christmas Parade
Get involved with a fun and memorable event this year. One that benefits "Children's Healthcare of Atlanta." As citizens of the Metro Area we all know the good our local children's hospital does saving young lives and helping families that are devastated by diseases that effect their young ones.
This is a great event and one we can all participate in as volunteers this Christmas. Opportunities abound to be a greeter, directing groups in the parade line-up or carrying a banner in the parade and more. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to make this event successful.
This event is held on December 5th from 10:30am-12pm at the SunTrust Atruim in downtown Atlanta.
The School Walk for Diabetes
School Walk for Diabetes is an educational program that promotes diabetes awareness, healthy living, community service and school spirit to students. A wonderful thing for families at a time of year when they are looking for things to do together.
Students learn the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes, the benefits of making healthy food choices and exercise, and ways to help others with diabetes.
Schools earn a percentage of the money raised for physical education equipment or school medical supplies. For more information visit www.diabetes.org/schoolwalk or 404.320.7100
The Salvation Army- Northwest Division
Every Christmas we all experience the touching display of the Salvation Army Bell Ringers as they coax us to help others by placing monetary gifts in the red Christmas kettles outside malls and department stores around the area. Volunteers are needed each year to ring the bell and get others in your community to give. There are also opportunities to host an online kettle. Won't you help this year?

This year make a difference in another's life by volunteering at Christmas.
