Volunteer Opportunities for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Teens

There are many volunteer opportunities in the Pittsburgh area for teens and even children who wish to give something back. Not only is volunteering a "good" thing to do, it is also a way for teens to gain valuable work experience which can help them land their first job. Volunteer work also looks great on a college admission application. We know that there are many good reasons for teens to do volunteer work. Here is a list of three places in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area where teens can volunteer.

Pittsburgh Animal Friends

Animal Friends is a no-kill animal shelter located off Camp Horn Road in Pittsburgh. The shelter is always in need of volunteers. Teens volunteering at Animal Friends can help by walking dogs, cleaning animal cages, playing with the many cats and rabbits and raising money. There are many opportunities for teens and even children, who love animals, to help this worthwhile Pittsburgh organization. Light of Life Mission

The Light of Life Mission is located on Pittsburgh's Northside. Besides providing shelter to homeless men, the mission also provides aide to Pittsburgh families in need. In order to volunteer at the Light of Life Mission you need to be a minimum of twelve-years-old. Volunteers Those wishing to volunteer with Pittsburgh's Light of Life Mission need to complete a volunteer application. Pittsburgh's Light of Life Mission also has several "special projects" that are in need of volunteers. Projects include such things as collecting donated backpacks filled with school supplies for Pittsburgh schoolchildren who are in need. There are also mentoring opportunities available. Volunteering at Pittsburgh's Light of Life Ministry could make for a very worthwhile "senior project" for teens.

Southwestern PA Branch of America's Red Cross

The Red Cross is an excellent place for teens to volunteer. There are many different volunteer opportunities available for teens with the Red Cross. The Pittsburgh Red Cross has a need for teens to volunteer as babysitting instructors and health and safety instructors. Those wishing to volunteer with the Southwestern PA chapter of the Red Cross can use the Red Cross's "Volunteer Match" program to find a volunteer position that suits them.

Volunteering is a great way for teens to give back to the community and to gain valuable work experience. Whether you are a Pittsburgh teen who loves animals or one who wishes to work with less fortunate children there is a volunteer opportunity in the Pittsburgh area that is right for you.
