But I was willing to go where needed and even got a temporary job there. That was back in early 2001 (10 years ago) before what we now refer to as 9/11 or 911. In fact on Tuesday 9/11/2001 I was at a staffing agency called Apple One applying for a "real" job. So, by volunteering I learned something and helped a few people in the process, met friends (Supervisors and other co-workers and co-volunteers).
Here in Lockhart an organization distributes food to needy families and individuals every other month. A couple months ago I went to attempt to collect. They were short handed so they asked if I would help and I did. Went back today, they had much more help and got things done quicker. So, I left, went to the technology center
There are lots of places you may want to consider volunteering. Consider volunteering at your church or synagogue. Maybe you can volunteer at a local food bank or theatre. If you do not have a criminal record, you may be able to volunteer at your local law enforcement offices or courthouse.
Volunteering can give you experience in a particular field; it may be able to help you decide you don't won't to something as a career. For example, say you enjoy being with kids, but you volunteer for your church or other youth group, you may decide that most kids are a bunch of brats and that only yours or your neighbors kids are perfect and no one else is worth doing. By volunteering, you got experience with youth and are able to make a decision as to whether or not it is doing as a career choice.
Volunteering has been a rewarding experience for me, you may have a local area food bank, church, fire department or other organization to volunteer for, one article on here mentioned the Lockhart Animal Shelter, and an animal shelter may be a choice for you.
