Volunteering in Birmingham, Alabama

Viktorya Hale
From what I can remember, this part of the country is really nice. It has been awhile since I have been in this neck of the woods, but I do have friends that live there or close by. There are several ways that you can make a difference by volunteering in the Birmingham area. If you love to make a difference in the world around you, consider volunteering.

If you are like me, you love animals. It may be fulfilling to you to volunteer at the Birmingham Zoo. There are people that are from all walks of life who serve the animals and guests at the Birmingham Zoo. Although there are many volunteers who have knowledge and experience, you don't have to because they will teach you there at the zoo. There are so many things that you can do there and the zoo staff is looking forward to you joining the team. If you are at least 13 years old, what are you waiting for? There is an orientation and it requires a $35 payment. There are snacks served to the younger volunteers, during orientation. It may just be well worth the experience and the change you can make. If you are interested in volunteering at the zoo, please visit the site and fill out the application.

On November 22, 2008 there is a family volunteering day hosted by Hands on Birmingham. This is a place making it easy to find the best avenue for you and your family who is interested in volunteering. Please be sure to save this day so that you can take your family to this program. If nothing else, it can teach your kids that it is awesome to volunteer. This is a place where non-profit organizations are linked so that you can choose the right place to volunteer. There are special projects that the entire family can enjoy. Spare some time and make it a great family day experience. Hands on Birmingham can use your help. If this sounds appealing to you, please visit thier website here.

Do you have a passion for reading? The Literacy Council of Birmingham can use your help as well. This organization is especially created to help children who are having a hard time with reading. As a writer, this is something that I personally find to be of the most important way to volunteer. There is also a program for adults who are having a hard time with reading and writing as well. For the most part volunteers are distributed throughout the schools (2nd and 3rd grades) to assist the teachers with children who have trouble reading. You may consider working as a staff member as well. Either way, volunteering at the Literacy Council of Birmingham is an awesome way to spend your extra time. Make a difference in your child's life. Have love for the homeless and less fortunate? You may consider volunteering for Alabama Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries. You can volunteer in simple ways such as sending Campbell Soup labels that earn them money for their organization. Their goal in this is to raise funds for a nine passenger van and computer equipment. Sending those labels can help tremendously, so being that I am a couple states over, this is something that I can do to help out. This is their main need at this time so let's see if they can reach their goal and raise the funds that are needed to get their van and other things. If you are interested, please visit their site and send those labels.

There are many more ways that you can volunteer. Sometimes people may consider taking the time to do things on their own, such as cleaning up a certain area or helping the elderly. These things won't go unnoticed. Thanks for all that you do to make America beautiful and helping those that are in need. Volunteer in Birmingham, you won't regret it.
