Volunteering at the Halsted Center in Chicago
Neighborhood: Lakeview
Chicago, IL 60613
United States of America
If you're looking for a place to volunteer in Chicago, one of the best opportunities in the Lakeview neighborhood is the Center on Halsted, a resource for the LGBT community that offers counseling, support groups, athletic programs such as yoga and volleyball, social programs and much more. The Center on Halsted claims to be the largest LGBT community center in the entire Midwest.

Volunteering opportunities at the Center on Halsted include helping with the weekly SAGE (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders) dinner, assisting patrons in the computer lab, or helping with mass mailings. Those with the required skills can also volunteer in the counseling or child care departments.

Some volunteer opportunities, such as working in the computer lab, require weekly commitments. But most are one-off events and activities that you can choose to participate in whenever you have the time available.

So many people are eager to volunteer that the center conducts monthly volunteer orientation sessions. After attending a session to learn about the center, its mission and its programs, you'll be placed on an email list and will receive regular updates about upcoming volunteer opportunities at the center.

The Center on Halsted is located at 3656 N. Halsted Street. You can find information on volunteering there at www.centeronhalsted.org/cohvolunteernew.html.
