The American Red Cross is one of the most helpful nonprofit organizations in the world today. There are three ways that you can help the American Red Cross in your community. Have you ever considered giving back by donating money? Some of us are unable to contribute time, so donating money may be our best bet. Then there is the local blood drives. The American Red Cross has a bus that will go to the local department store parking lot, where donors can easily donate blood. If you are interested, please visit the site. Just put your zip code in the box and it will show a listing of dates and times they have a local blood drive.
The Habitat for Humanity is always looking for volunteers as well. Consider the many homes that have been destroyed by floods and fires? Many of the victims can't afford to buy a new home. Many of these are families with children. Not to mention, some insurance companies don't even cover floods. How nice would it be to know that you helped a needy family get into a brand new home, after they suffered the loss of everything due to a hurricane? If this sounds like a great idea to you, please visit the Habitat for Humanity website, where you can locate the nearest branch.
Why does it seem that our veterans are never acknowledged? How is it that we as a nation can forget the many people who have fought for the very freedoms that we have, yet they are sitting up in a wheelchair or suffering from lung problems due to war? How is that we allow these things to go unnoticed. Perhaps you and your family want to make a difference in the life of one of our veterans? The Department of Veteran's Affairs are always looking for volunteers to aid with the necessities of our veterans. If this is something that you can see yourself doing, please visit their website.
