There are times when we have a lot of time on our hands. What better way to spend that extra time then to give it to something or someone that truly needs it. Why not give it for the cause of helping the sick and the poor. Then of course there are non-profit organizations out there as well. There is so much that you can do in the Oklahoma City area, so why not begin today? Have a look at the many opportunities that you have from the list below.

The Oklahoma City Zoo is one place that you can visit as well as volunteer. Surely there are many who can find the time to care for the animals there. There are many ways that you can volunteer. The zoo is looking for teens starting at the age of 14 to volunteer. There are many things that they can do as well. There is also a Junior Curator program where teens ages 14-18 will learn the "behind the scenes" of what it takes to be a zoo keeper. Adults, there is always something for you as well. Don't feel left out. There is an Adult Volunteer Program that you can look into and become part of the team. If this sounds like something that you may be interested in, feel free to contact the volunteer department at (405) 425-0275.

Give back to our Veterans at the Oklahoma City VAMC. There are volunteers needed as a booth volunteer, chapel escort, one for the patience and even the coffee and shuttle programs. Surely there is something for everyone, interested. No better way to give of your time then to become a volunteer at the VA hospital. If this sounds like something that you are wanting to get involved with feel free to call the volunteer department at (405) 270-5162.

You may consider lending a helping hand to those domesticated pets as well. Best Friends of Pets in Oklahoma. You can get involved with the animals in our community. There are several things that you can do there. One prime example is volunteering to find these animals new homes. This is their Adoption Program. They are always needing volunteers to aid in special events as well as the education program. Another great program to volunteer in is the spading and neutering program. This keeps the over population down. The group is also looking for those who would be interested in becoming programmers as well.

The YWCA is looking for volunteers to aid as a Crisis Advocate and a Child Advocate. They are also looking for people to take messages and a Group Facilitator. They are also looking for a nurse who is willing to volunteer services in being an examiner for alleged sex abuse victims. They are looking for volunteers that are willing to read to the children, help with music and instruments as well as a teacher's aid. To go along with these choices, one may even consider being a speaker for the community as well as help with special occasions. If any of these activities look like something that you would take interest in, please go ahead and contact (405) 943-7177.

A child or an elderly lady would want nothing more then to see your smiling face taking the time to make a difference in their life. Volunteering is definitely a humbling experience and it makes us appreciate more in life. If you live in the Oklahoma City area, please take some time to go and volunteer. Show your children that volunteering is an act of kindness. Also that many people benefit from volunteering in more ways then one.
