Viktorya Hale
We thought that since we have pretty much covered all of the cities that we have been to, we would go ahead and branch out to other cities, nationwide. We want to bring the best of volunteering up front, so that you can make the best of choices when it comes to volunteering in your city. Portland, Oregon is a beautiful place (so we have heard) and we wanted to start there, first.

Hands on Portland

This is the perfect place to volunteer, for those who have an interest to see the community looking better. There are about 300 non profit organizations that are supported through Hands on Portland. There are special events where you can volunteer as well. You can certainly find something for everyone here in Portland, Oregon. There are programs for teens alone, then families, too. If this sounds like something that you and your family may find interest in, please visit their website here.

Children's Museum

Do you love children? If so, you may consider volunteering for Portland Children's Museum. You will be interacting with children. You will also be able to build exhibits and read to the children. There are art projects that you can enjoy with families as well as aiding in the museum's office. If you have a special skill, the staff may even use that as well. This is good hands on training for any career involving children. The museum management even gives letters of recommendation After 100 hours of service, you will become an official member of the museum. Learn more by visiting this site.

The Portland Marathon

Do you love to run or do you know someone who does? Feel free to come and volunteer at the Portland Marathon. Registration doesn't start until May. The marathons are to help charities, amongst other things. If this sounds like the perfect way to volunteer and you will definitely benefit from it all the way around. For more information, please visit the website.

Portland Art Center

If you are a lover of the arts, you may be interested in the art center to volunteer. Because there are only two regular staff members, the museum relies heavily on the volunteers that come in. They ask that you possess a genuine passion for arts, with an open personality that is flexible. You are required to have some work experience. This is not only a great way to volunteer, but it is also good for those of you who are studying art, because you have the advantage to meet artists, as well as obtain a membership (after 30 days). If this sounds like something that you would like to do, please visit the site.

Homeless Connect

There are about 3,500 people who go homeless on any day, throughout the year, in the city of Portland. The community is in need of volunteers to help by donating their time and skills. If you are a doctor, lawyer, nurse, dentist or even a counselor, this would be a perfect opportunity for you to use your expertise to help your fellow man. If this sounds like something that you may like to do, please feel free to visit the website.

With all of the things that you can do with your time, volunteering in Portland, Oregon has got to be the most rewarding.
