10 Places for Low-Income Families and the Homeless to Obtain Assistance
Volusia County consists of 20 cities and towns including: Daytona Beach, Daytona Beach Shores, South Daytona, Edgewater, New Smyrna Beach, Ormond Beach, Holly Hill, Port Orange, Oak Hill, DeBary, Deleon Springs, Orange City, Enterprise, Barberville, Pierson, Seville, Lake Helen, Deltona, Deland, and Ponce Inlet.
Volusia County residents, along with individuals temporarily residing or working in the county, or visitors in need of food, clothing or shelter may qualify for services offered through the following agencies.
Catholic Charities of Central Florida has been offering vital community services since 1962. Programs and services include: Women, Children and Family Service, Senior Care, Health Care, Immigration and Refugee Services, and Emergency Assistance Program.
Individuals in need of urgent basic human needs, including food and financial assistance, are required to make an appointment to consult with a CCCF case worker. Clients must bring a social security card for each household member.
Food bags are distributed to CCCF clients each weekday between 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Catholic Charities of Central Florida provides utility assistance and offers bus tokens to clients seeking employment, or in need of transportation to state agencies. CCCF does not offer rent assistance, gas vouchers, or prescription cards.

Daytona Rescue Mission offers hot meals, clothing, and groceries to the homeless in Volusia County. Those in need can obtain basic hygiene products including soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, along with shoes, clothing, and blankets.
The mission provides a Christian service at 10:00 a.m. daily. Hot meals are available each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. Food bags and clothing are offered each Monday, Friday and Saturday.
Food, clothing, shoes, and basic care item donations are graciously accepted each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday at the mission.

American Legion Post #6 Deland offers food, clothing, housing and utilities assistance to children, widows, and families of veterans. The American Legion also helps those in need obtain temporary financial assistance to cover costs of basic needs for minor children of veterans.
The intake process requires individuals to provide their birth certificate, social security card, and DD-214, along with the name and relationship of veteran.

Salvation Army of Volusia County Emergency Assistance Program provides food, clothing, shelter, rent, mortgage, and utility assistance to individuals in crisis. Applicants must contact the agency to determine eligibility and arrange in-take appointments. Individuals must provide picture ID, social security card, and birth certificate.
The Volusia County Salvation Army office offers help with eviction, past due mortgage payments, and utility bills. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Epiphany Help Center, Port Orange offers a food pantry and clothing vouchers, along with limited assistance with utility bills and transportation to families in Port Orange and South Daytona.
Assistance is provided on a case-by-case basis. Program acceptance is based on income eligibility as per USDA food guidelines. Individuals in need are required to contact the help center on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Applicants must fill-out an application and provide proof of residency, social security card, birth certificate, and picture ID.

Gifts of Love Community Coalition, New Smyrna Beach provides a food pantry, along with limited financial assistance for rent, utilities, and prescriptions. Gifts of Love also engage in major projects including back-to-school programs, Thanksgiving and Christmas giving.
At present, Gifts of Love is providing new sneakers to school-aged children. Parents in need of new shoes can register every Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and noon at the United Church of Christ on the corner of Washington and Faulkner Streets. Registration is open until August 13th. Shoe distribution takes place August 20th and 21st at the same location.
The intake process for emergency services is by referral-only and applicants must meet eligibility requirements. Gifts of Love provide services to residents of New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, and Florida Shores.

Halifax Urban Ministries, Daytona Beach provides emergency assistance to homeless and low-income families residing in Volusia and Flagler counties. Services include hot meals; baby food, formula, and diapers; emergency financial assistance; cold weather shelter; laundry and shower facilities.
Applicants must obtain a referral through the Florida Department of Children and Family Services or United Way. Individuals are required to provide proof of residency, social security card, and photo ID. Halifax Urban Ministries hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

New Hope Human Services, Deltona offers food pantry services twice a month on Wednesday. Those in need of food must call New Hope for details and eligibility requirements. The intake process occurs at the time of pick-up. New Hope offers food to residents of Deltona and Lake Helen.

St. Clare's Catholic Church, Deltona offers food pantry services each Monday and Friday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and noon. St. Clare's provides food to Deltona residents only and requires photo ID, but does not deny any Deltona resident, nor assess fees.

Florida Department of Children and Families manages the states' food stamp program, temporary cash assistance program, and Medicaid healthcare program. Individuals with computer access can submit an online application to determine if they are eligible for benefits through the ACCESS website. Those without computer access must call Florida DCF to schedule an appointment with a case worker. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
