Vosges Exotic Haut Chocolate Ice Cream

Vosges is a Chicago company that makes high-end chocolate using exotic ingredients. I've always loved their chocolate bars, but recently they rolled out their ice cream line and I was instantly hooked. There are four exotic ice cream flavors: Red Fire, Pandan, Naga, and Wattleseed. With all natural, organic and exotic ingredients expertly blended these ice creams are well worth the $7 per pint price tag. The ice cream and candy bars are available at some Whole Foods, or at other high end food sellers around the country and through Vosges' website. There is a list on the website of where you can buy their products. If you're in Chicago, New York or Las Vegas you should stop by a Vosges boutique for some of their ice cream, chocolate bars, truffles or the best hot chocolate you've ever tasted!

I have tried all four flavors of the ice cream, and it would be difficult to pick a favorite although I think I would have to say that Naga is really my favorite. The flavors are:

Red Fire - Ancho & Chipotle Chillies, Ceylon Cinnamon and dark chocolate. This ice cream is very sweetly spicey, the dark chocolate is a great balance for the spice. This is a great dessert for "date night'" at home.

Pandan - Pandan Leaf Extract, similar to vanilla wafers with a touch of pine nut, and dark chocolate. Pandan leaf has a vanilla taste and is used as commonly in Southeast Asia and the surronding areas as we use Vanilla Extract here in the West. This is a great treat when you simply must have some chocolate but no ordinary chocolate will do.

Wattleseed - Aboriginal Wattleseed, which tastes like chocolate, coffee, hazelnut and vanilla all in one, with macadamia nuts, which Food & Wine voted a must try taste in 07. This is a great dessert to serve after a dinner party.

Naga - Sweet Indian Curry and Fresh Young Coconut in a creamy custard ice cream, which was chosen by Time Out Chicago as one of the top foods to try in 07. This ice cream is like nothing I've ever tasted before. This is my "bad day" therapy ice cream.

Through the Vosges website you can order a 4 pack of ice cream that has a pint of each flavor for $45 including shipping costs. They also many different gift combinations of truffles, candy bars, hot chocolates and other treats. They do custom wedding favors and exotic wedding cakes as well. Their website is well-designed and easy to navigate. They also have live help available via chat during normal business hours and they are very helpful.
