Fast forward 5 years later, we haven't been attacked so the Democrats are getting complacent and using the war in Iraq as a political bargaining chip in hopes of regaining power. If they succeed it will have disasterous consequences. They will "Cut and Run" in Iraq before the job is finished and it will be just like the end of Vietnam in 1973 with helicopter evacs from the embassy rooftop.
We live in a "sitcom world" where everything is solved and wrapped up in 30 minutes. The real world doesn't work like that. We spent 7 years occupying Japan after World War Two and now this former enemy is now our ally and no threat militarily to anyone. Economically maybe, but no longer engaged in a military conquest of the world. There is historical precedent in promoting liberty as a way of preventing harm to our nation. People with liberty and freedom channel their energy into commerce and away from conquest. It worked in Japan and Germany and it will work in the Middle East, that is if we are willing to give it enough time.
A vote for Ned Lamont is a step backward in my opinion. "Old Joe" Lieberman understands what is at stake here and regularly voted against his party's position when it came to voting on the war. He was rewarded by losing the primary election to Lamont. I'm glad he didn't just go away like they wanted him to and instead decided to run as an Independent. It is my hope that the voters will see things the same way he does and send him back to Washington. We need you Joe, I hope you come back.
