"If we want to save anything, we first need to truly appreciate it" Bernard Weber
There is a movement of sorts inspired by Bernard Weber, film maker and entrepreneur. The first campaign ended on July 7, 2007 (07-07-07) and announced the New Seven Wonders of the World in Lisbon. It was estimated that some 100,000,000 votes were received from all over the globe and it was dubbed that the New7Wonders was a millennium project broadcast to over 2/3's of the world population.
To watch the video that launched the worldwide event, you can view it here.
Weber explains that the number 7 has significance the world over. From religious roots to cultural, seven represents many things to many people. Weber has linked seven to Global Memory and says that every human being can recount seven wonders easily. "It is a fact that 7 is not only a magical number, but also a very practical one: 7 things is exactly the number of things that the average person can remember."
The next global campaign is the New7Wonders of Nature and you can vote for your favorites. The 28 finalists include such places as Sundarbans, Bangladesh, India and Matterhorn/Cervino, Italy, Switzerland. There is even an entry for the Grand Canyon, USA and Bay of Fundy, Canada.

There are so many wonders in our world, should we limit them to seven? I wonder about the limits on wonders although I admire Mr. Weber's quest to bring the world together in a venture to recognize that which is wonderful on this marvelous planet.
By the way, of the original Seven Wonders of the World, only the great pyramid is still standing.
