I do however love the Thomas & Friends Laptop. My son has really enjoyed playing with it. What is so cute about this is that we both sit at the kitchen island on our bar stools and I have my laptop and he is sitting next to me with his laptop. He usually wants to be like daddy all the time, so this is such a nice feeling for me that he wants to be like mommy for a change.
I love the built in mouse feature. Even though my laptop doesn't have a mouse, I was amazed to watch my son use his mouse correctly. I guess it was just natural instinct. Right now I think the actually activities the laptop has to offer are a little bit over my son's head. Since he is only two years old, he just likes to press the buttons and play with the mouse. If he is lucky, he must actually get a right answer. The age recommendation on this laptop is anywhere from 36 months - 6 years old. I definitely agree with this age recommendation. I can see my son really enjoying and learning from in when he turns three. I am still glad that I bought it for him now. It is fun for him to listen to the sounds and the music. He likes to think he is pressing the buttons and making the sound happen.
I like the fact that is has a little handle so my son can carry it around the house. When the cover is closed, it looks like a mini briefcase. It is very light so he is able to carry it without a problem. Although my son is very strong, and can carry a 2 liter bottle of soda. The laptop measures 2.8" x 11.2" x 8.1". It does require 3 "AA" batteries, which happen to be included. My son has used this laptop a lot and we haven't even needed to change the batteries once yet. Sometimes I find myself consistently changing the batteries. I like the fact that it takes AA and not C or D batteries. AA are so much cheaper and you are likely to have some extras in your house.
I researched many different toy laptops and this one has the best reviews out there. I cannot find one thing wrong with this product. Vtech always makes such great learning toys. My house is filled with Vtech toys. One of my favorite activities on this laptop is the one that asks you to fill in the missing letter. If you get it wrong, they give you more chances to get it right. If by then you still don't know it, then they tell you the correct answer. First, they print it on the screen and then they say it aloud. This is great for both sight and auditory reinforcement. All children learn in different ways. This toy lets you also have a tactual reinforcement by pressing the letters and moving the mouse.
Overall, I highly recommend the Vtech - Thomas & Friends Laptop. It makes a great addition to my son's learning toys.
