If you're ever out in the area of Princeton, Massachusetts and you're a skier - you need to take the time to check out Wachusett Mountain Ski Area!

While not the biggest mountain you'll find in New England by any means - they are centrally located and easy to get to off of Routes 2 or 140. Standing at 2,006 feet above sea levels, Wachusett offers views of Boston to the east. Parking is plenty, and if the top lot is full they offer complimentary shuttle buses to get you to the ticket window quickly and conveniently.

Wachusett is an old Indian word meaning "the great hill." With the original trails dating back to the 1930's, Wachusett officially became a ski area in 1969 when Ralph Crowley received a lease from the state. The ski area is now owned and managed by his three children.

Making it easier for commuters to get to the mountain, Wachusett has started up a "ski train" which assists people living in or around Boston the opportunity to ski without paying for the gas to get there. Partnered with the MBTA, you can hop on the train and take it to the Fitchburg stop, where Wachusett Mountain will provide a shuttle bus to get you to the mountain. Once there, show your train receipt to the counter-person and receive a credit for the cost of a one way train ticket to use anywhere at the mountain, including lift tickets, restaurant, ski store or more!

They offer 20 trails from beginner to advanced. They provide ski and snowboard lessons, rentals, a warm lounge to warm up in as well as your choice of places to eat. There is also entertainment frequently in the upstairs lounge. Rent a suite, and have your own "space" for taking breaks from hitting the slopes! Polar Kids is a popular program for your young, beginner skier and is great time for parents to hit the slopes while the kids take lessons! The ski or snowboard school is incredibly helpful, their staff is knowledgeable, caring and has a great way with kids and adults alike.

If you're looking for high adventure skiing, this is probably not the place. If you're looking for a casual "get-away" with your partner or family, you definitely want to check out Wachusett Mountain Ski Area. Rates are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. You'll be glad you made the stop!
