Waffle Neckwarmer Scarflette Mini Scarf to Crochet

Thick and Warm Neckwarmer Without the Weight

Marie Anne St. Jean
A scarf can provide comfort and warmth on a cold day, but a long scarf can get in the way or be too bulky. Why not opt for a mini scarf or neckwarmer to warm things up for you?

This neckwarmer pattern is crocheted using the FPDC (front post double crochet) stitch and is very quick and easy to work up, even for a novice or someone new to the craft of crochet. Photos of how to complete the FPDC can be found here.

The waffle-look stitch makes this neckwarmer suitable for a man, but pretty enough for a woman. Yarn in a solid color will show the waffle pattern more prominently, while it will be slightly less noticeable if using a camouflage or variegated yarn.

The pattern works up very quickly, so make several in various colors - neutrals to match everything, and brights to bring a bit of sunshine to an otherwise gloomy day. Keep a few on hand for gift-giving.

Skill Level: Easy

Materials Needed:

Approx 2-3 oz worsted weight yarn
Size J crochet hook
Large needle to weave in ends
2-3 Buttons (about the size of a penny)

Abbreviations Used:

Ch = chain
Sp = space
St = stitch
SS = slip stitch
DC = double crochet
FPDC = front post double crochet

Waffle Neckwarmer Pattern

With J hook, ch 16.

1: DC third ch from hook and DC each stitch across row (counting first chs, 16 DC). Ch 2, turn.

2: Skip st directly under turning ch, * FPDC next st, DC next st, repeat from * across, end with DC at top of turning ch (NOTE: after the last FPDC, the turning ch will be behind it, so pull it to the left/front to insert last DC of row). Ch 2, turn.

3: Skip st directly under turning ch, *DC next st, FPDC next st, repeat from * across. (NOTE: FPDC will go in st that already appears raised). End with DC second to last st and DC in top of turning ch. Ch 2, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece measures approx 24-16", or desired length.

Weave in ends. Attach buttons with coordinating yarn or thread

    This is wonderful! No, wonderful does not begin to describe it. I see some of these under family trees - and one might even have my name on it. A Scarflette is a clever idea - thanks for sharing :)
