Wait! Don't Throw that Away Just Yet

Your Donations Are Always Welcome

Lee Hansen
Soon windows all over the nation will be opening up to welcome the season of Spring. In some cases curtains will be changed out to more seasonal fabrics. This is also a time when many will be spring cleaning their houses from top to bottom. It is amazing what sunshine and blue skies can do to put you in a good mood.

Spring is also a time when your donations and other items are so badly needed.

WHO: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City

THEIR NEEDS: housewares, furniture, small appliances, shoes/accessories, bead/bath items, clothes for men, women and children, media items such as DVD's, CD's and software

HOW TO DONATE: Drop items off at Savers in their Community Donation Center

LOCATION: 4466 S. Noland Rd, Independence, MO

DAYS/TIME: Monday-Saturday, 9-9, Sunday 11-7

PHONE: 816-373-9201

There may be home pick-up available in your area.

According to the Savers pamphlet it says, "When you donate your items at Savers, you're helping to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City in matching children from a one-parent or non-traditional household with caring adult mentors in a one-to-one friendship. "Bigs" and "Littles" spend a couple of hours a week together doing normal, every day activities".

I have had the pleasure of donating items for this purpose on several occasions. It's a good feeling to know that my donations can make a big difference. In fact, I think I'll get a jump-start again for this year while the sun is promising brighter days ahead.

So before you throw away something you no longer need, consider donating it to a local charity or thrift store. The rewards are priceless.
