Wait A Minute! Is Protein Good or Bad for You?

Daniel Rein
There has been a relatively new product to hit the fitness market and that product is called Whey Protein. This special kind of powder protein now appears commonly is almost every Vitamin Shop or health store. I was tempted to buy the product too until I heard some disturbing news from my doctor. First let me explain the positives and negatives of this product.

Whey Protein has been used successfully by many world class athletes and it is used primarily to bulk up using the gym and fitness rooms and put on large amounts of muscle mass quickly. Whey Protein is to be used in conjunction with working out at the gym almost daily and by eating healthy. Whey protein has a high amount of protein in it and protein is the best source for bulking up and putting on muscle mass. Whey Protein comes in all size containers and in a powder form. The powder should be taken with a liquid, preferably a fruit juice which will give the mixture some kind of taste. I have heard that orange juice or pineapple juice mixes well with it.

Now, here are the negatives according to research that I have done and doctor reports. The problem that many people have is that Whey Protein affects your liver. Some people who take Whey Protein do not drink enough water and even if you do, it is still hard to determine the effects that it will have on your liver because each person's body is different. If you do decide to take Whey Protein, I strongly recommend that you have a water bottle handy with you at all times.

In addition, I recommend that if you take Whey Protein, you see a physician regularly to control the effects that the protein has on your liver. The liver is the primary organ for controlling the substances that affect your body. For example, drinking mass amounts of alcohol will greatly affect your liver and destroy it. Likewise, the Whey Protein has large amounts of protein and also affects your liver.

The information about Whey protein has been slow to come in part because of the success that body builders have had with it. However, body builders know what they are doing with their body based on experience and novice weight lifters should exercise caution when using the powder.
