A Mother's Day Poem Contemplating the Birth of Her First Child

Debra Cornelius
Drifting lazily in softly woven dreams
At the edge of a new adventure.
Words heard through a quiet filter
Cause her to leap with joy at love
Expressed as laughter,
Felt as ripples moving across
Quiet waters.

She stretches forth a hand
Seeking the source of love
Floating around her.
The soft barrier of her world,
Trembles slightly as it moves.
She tumbles about while finding
The rhythmic sway which lulls her to sleep.

Drifting lazily in softly woven dreams
At the edge of a new adventure.
Translucent eyelids flutter ever so slightly.
With her tiny thumb in her mouth,
She waits in quiet anticipation.
Ever so slightly her world shifts
Drawing ever closer to the unknown.

At any moment the adventure may begin.
It will be strange but familiar also.
Words heard through her filtered world
Will be repeated joyfully at her arrival.
Loving arms ready to cradle her will keep her safe.
She will be rocked to sleep listening to
The familiar rhythmic beat of her mother's heart.

Drifting along in lazily woven dreams
At the edge of a new adventure.
Surrounded in sleep by ripples of love.
Ever so slowly unseen changes begin.
Final preparations are underway .
Drawing ever closer to the unknown,
Her birth day approaches.

Happy Mother's Day Mommy.
