Waiting for the Books "Debt of Honor," "Gone Too Far" and "Inca Gold" to Become Movies

When Will Hollywood Turn These Top 3 Action Thriller Books into Action Thriller Movies

Sandra Bacon
I've always enjoyed books made into movies and whenever a movie came out, I would read the book first. I didn't want any surprises and also wanted to see how close the movie was to the book.

There were a few times I was disappointed with the movie, but not enough for me to stop reading the books first. As usual, Hollywood takes all the creative license they want when making a movie, and if it takes adding or deleting parts to make the movie better - then that's what they will do.

I do a lot of reading and if you're like me, there is always a good book that you would love to see on the big screen. Well, I have listed three books below by some well known authors that I would love to see made into a movie. Seeing a book made into a movie and come alive with actors and special effects can't compare to our limited imagination.

Debt of Honor(Jack Ryan) Spy Thriller - By Tom Clancy

I love Tom Clancy books and there is nothing better than having his books made into movies. If you enjoyed Executive Orders, Patriot Games, The Hunt for Red October and The Sum of All Fears, then you will enjoy seeing the book - Debt of Honor - as a movie.

The last Tom Clancy book to be made into a movie was The Sum of All Fears, so Debt of Honor would naturally follow as the next installment.

Of course Jack Ryan comes back in true form, after the president convincingly talks him into it however. The storyline is about a Japanese industrialist named Razio Yamata, who feels the United States was responsible for the deaths of his parents during WWII, so he comes up with a plan to avenge his parents by bringing down America and the US Military, and in turn, make Japan the most dominate country in the world.

This is Razio Yamata's debt of honor to his parents. The only thing missing is a way to set his plan in action. This happens when a fatal automobile accident - here in the States - is caused by a faulty gas tank on two Japanese cars. A United States congressman rushes a new trade law through the system that is suppose to hurt Japan economically.

It causes a breakdown of the U.S. And Japanese trade agreements and it also provides a way for Yamata to implement his plan. This book has everything that would make a blockbuster movie... spies, nuclear weapons, action and I'm sure it would give those of us who love spy thriller movies a big adrenaline rush.

If this book were to be made into a movie, I would like the role of Jack Ryan to go to Ben Affleck since he starred in The Sum of All Fears... even though I'm a die-hard Harrison Ford fan. I believe George Takei would make an excellent Razio Yamata, and the director would be either Phil Alden Robinson, Phillip Noyce, or John McTiernan. Each of these man directed previous movies from Tom Clancy books, and I think either one would do a fantastic job.

Inca Gold (Dirk Pitt Adventure) Action Adventure - By Clive Cussler

I'm also a lover of action adventure books and movies and if I could choose this type of book to make a movie from, it would be Inca Gold by Clive Cussler. If you aren't familiar with Mr. Cussler, he is the author of Sahara, a book that was turned into a movie from the Dirk Pitt Adventure series and starred Matthew McConaughey.

This adventure is about searching for a lost treasure of Inca gold worth one billion dollars, and of course Dirk Pitt finds himself smack dab in the middle of it. Rescuing two divers who are trapped in a sinkhole in Peru sends him searching for this gold that has been lost since the 16th century... after the Incas hid it from the Spanish.

The book has everything an action adventure should have... ancient curses, grave robbers, art thieves and a little romance. If you loved Indiana Jones, you would love this book as a movie.

The bad guys are looking for a golden item that supposedly has hieroglyphics with a description of the treasure's burial place and Pitt is looking for a jade box that has an Inca metalwork map that leads to the same treasure. It doesn't matter that the box was stolen from the Incas by the Spanish, then taken from them by Sir Francis Drake and eventually lost somewhere in the jungle of South American.

To make matters worst, the bad guys - three brothers who are art thieves and artifact smugglers - have kidnapped Pitts girlfriend, so not only does he have to find the treasure and stop the thieves, he now has to brave an underground river to save his congresswoman girlfriend.

If this book could be made into a movie, I would want to see Matthew McConaughey continue his role as Dirk Pitt, with his sidekick Al Giordino played by Steve Zahn. They were excellent together and it would be a shame to brake up that partnership. His girlfriend would be played by Maggie Gyllenhaal... I think she looks like she could easily be a congresswoman. The role of the female archaeologist would go to Ali Larter because I can picture her in this role with a blond ponytail and eyeglasses.

The director for this movie could be Breck Eisner who directed Sahara or Steven Spielberg. I feel that either of these directors would do a find job since they have both directed action adventure movies in the past.

Gone Too Far (Troubleshooters) Romantic Thriller - By Suzanne Brockmann

Another favorite of mine are romantic thrillers and I would love to see Gone Too Far by Suzanne Brockmann as a book made into a movie. I believe it would do rather well at the box office. It may not make 200 million the first weekend, but I think it could hold its own.

This book is just one of about 6 books in the Troubleshooters series written by Ms. Brockmann. The stories are centered around a U.S. Navy SEAL team called team 16, and Gone Too Far is the romantic thriller featuring Sam Starrett and Alyssa Locke

Starrett's estranged wife is divorcing him and he needs to make a trip to Florida to sign the divorce papers. When he arrives at her home, instead of finding his wife and their baby, he finds the body of a woman who has been killed, and it's not his wife Mary Lou.

In fact, there is no sign of Mary Lou or the baby. It seems they are both missing! Of course this is a job for the FBI and this is where agent Alyssa Locke enters. However she and Sam aren't strangers. They had a brief relationship in the past that is going to make working together difficult for them both.

But work together they must, because information surfaced that linked Mary Lou with terrorists that were responsible for attempting an assassination of the president of the United States. The story is exciting and suspenseful with some sexual chemistry between Sam and Alyssa thrown in. If you liked the Peacemaker with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman, then I think you would love seeing Gone Too Far made into a movie.

I want to see Thomas Jane in the starring role of Sam Starrett because he did a fantastic job in The Punisher. His love interest would go to Megan Fox as Alyssa Locke and the director could be either Robert Zemeckis who directed Romancing the Stone or Mimi Leder who directed Peacemaker.

I hope someone from Hollywood reads this article and make my wish come true by making these top 3 action thriller books into movies. Which one first? Why not start at the top and work downward. There are plenty of books out there that can be made into movies, I guess we'll just have to wait until Hollywood becomes inspired.

Too bad, I really love the Jack Ryan series, but in today's world I can understand about the bottom line. Thanks
