Wakey Wakey Going Crazy

The Bard School of Thought
There once was a little boy whose name was Zack.
Zack lived in an old barn with his mum.
The farmer who owned the barn made Zacks mum work for him in his house cleaning the kitchen to pay for the rent.
She did the pots and scrubbed the floors and cooked the meals and washed his clothes.
She cleaned his boots and ironed his shirts and cleaned out the fire place to pay for the rent!

Zacks mum had no money to buy clothes for Zack to go to school in, so he stayed home in the corner of the barn with his friends Fatty rodent and Spooky spider, Spooky spider would spin a web around Zacks fingers and crawl up his arm and down his back, while Fatty rodent would run and find food for them to share.

One day, Zack was walking through fern forest, tapping the trees as he wandered by and hummed a merry tune about what it must be like to have a tree for a friend, when all of a sudden he heard someone calling him.
"You there boy, yes you. Come over here!" Zack looked and looked again but he couldn't see anyone.
He thought he must be hearing things so he started to walk off.
"Oy! You boy can't you see I'm talking to you?!" shouted a voice.
To Zacks' surprise, the tree was talking to him!
"Would you mind givin me bark a bit o' a scratch wiv that old stick you got there mate? If it aint too much trouble and if you would be so kind."
Of course Zack obliged the tree and after he had given the old bark a good scratch he sat down for a rest.

"You know young sir." Said the tree "Because you av been so kind to me I am going to teach you a rhyme and when you sing it things will appen to you which will bring kindness into your life and the rhyme goes like this

Wakey wakey goin crazy wakey wakey me,
Lazy lazy wakey wakey lazy wakey me!

The great tree told Zack to go home and practice singing the rhyme and when it was time he would wake up and know what to do.
Well of course Zack ran straight home and told his mother what the tree had exactly told him!
After she had listened attentively to what he was saying Zacks mum gave him some bread and cheese and a fresh glass of cows milk and put him to bed.
"Goodnight my little prince." Said his mother as she climbed back down the ladder of the barn.
"I love you!"

Zack lay in the warmth of his bed reciting the words of the rhyme that the tree had sung to him.
That night he had a very strange dream.
He dreamed he was walking through a great temple with pillars that stretched high to the sky.
All around the roof top doves were flying, they flew round and around in a vast circle and as they did they chirp to each other

Wakey wakey goin crazy wakey wakey me,
Wakey me, wakey wakey me!

Suddenly Zack awoke with a start! He could smell smoke! It was very dark for there was no light in the barn, he was very scared!
Zack ran to his mother. "Mother I can smell smoke!"
Zacks' mother woke quickly when she heard her son call and ran to find the farmer to warn him.
The farmer had fallen asleep in front of the fire and a piece of coal had rolled out onto the carpet, setting it alight.
Zack mum ran in with a big bucket of water and put the fire out!

The next day the farmer came to see Zack and told his mum that they could live in the house from now on and that he was going to buy Zack some new clothes so that he would be able to go to school!
He was very grateful to them both for saving his life and would repay them with kindness.

So Zack said farewell to his friend's Fatty rodent and Spooky spider and went to live in the house with the farmer.
A few months later, Zack found himself walking through fern forest so he went to tell the great tree what had happened but the tree was not there!
Instead, on the ground where the tree was, Zack found a wooden box.
On the outside of the box was written the words

Wakey wakey going crazy wakey wakey me,
Lazy lazy wakey wakey lazy wakey me!

Well Zack was surprised by this but he knew it was a gift to him from the great tree, so he sat down and lifted the lid very slowly to see what was inside and as he lifted the lid he sang the song and there inside was a mirror!

"Wakey wakey me!" exclaimed Zack in surprise.

The end
