Waking Up to Sorrow

Zenovia B.
What is happening in the world today?
It is very harmful outside for a child to play.

A child cannot go to school, for the fear of being shot.
Or the teachers and principals touching them in the wrong spot.

Down town men with signs, "will work for money"
Some find this amusing, people this is not funny.

Sending our children to war, for their country's protection
Losing them to death, no longer will they receive affection

I try to embrace life, at time it's hard to do.
Because everything that is happening affects both me and you.

There is no more loyalty in marriage people say "I do."
After years together and children, he blurts out "I'm gay and I never knew."

What will I happen when I wake up tomorrow?
I go to sleep mind thinking positive, only to wake to sorrow.
