Waldoboro is a town in the Knox county of coastal Maine. It has a wide variety of businesses and other establishments, including a theatre, multiple bed & breakfasts, a motel, and a popular diner.

LODGING: Several choices are available for lodging in Waldoboro, most of them bed & breakfasts. Moody's Motel and Cabins (see moodysdiner.com and click on the "Motel and Cabins" link) has rates starting at $45/night, probably the least expensive option for lodging in Waldoboro. The Roaring Lion Bed & Breakfast (roaringlion.com) is open year-around, located on Main Street, and has rates starting at $65 (single). The Reed Mansion B&B (reedmansion.com) has four rooms with private baths, and rates (incl. breakfast) starting at $85, depending upon the season. The Broad Bay Inn and Gallery (on Main Street, see broadbayinn.com), has a gift shop, is open year-around, and offers nightly rates starting at $75. For additional lodging options in this part of Maine, consider The Mill Pond Inn (bed & breakfast) in nearby Damariscotta, or the Loon's Cry campground in neighboring Warren.

SHOPPING: Most types of shopping are possible in Waldoboro, Maine although many of the individual stores are relatively small. Stores in Waldoboro include a small Hannaford grocery store (near the elementary school; has soda machines, an ATM, and a pay phone), Medomak Variety (soda, pizza, beer, sandwiches, bottle redemption), Waltz's Drugs (Rexall pharmacy), The Movie & Pizza Shop (also has ice cream), Townline Video (convenience items, coffee, beer, ice, U-Haul truck rentals), Moody's Gifts (shirts, hats, mugs, etc), Fawcett's (art, antiques, toy museum), Fessendens (gift shop, craft store), Spear's Farm Stand (Rt. 1), and Eagle's Nest Yarns. Hardware stores in Waldoboro include Bear Hill True Value, Ace Hardware, and Storer Lumber (building materials & supplies). Village Farm Alpacas, located at the top of a hill on Old Route 1 (a.k.a. Cole Hill Rd.), has an Alpaca Shop with yarn, sweaters and gifts. They have a website at alpacavillage.com. Roseacre Farm (on a different part of the same road), has highland cattle and sheep, as well as a farm stand where vegetables can be purchased. Shelley's Flowers & Gifts is located on route one and offers tuxedo rentals. There are a number of gas stations, including an Irving (with diesel, Mainway convenience store, bakery, deli), a Mobil (diesel, kerosene, Big Apple conv. store), a Citgo (with Maritime Farms conv. store, deli, pizza), and an Exxon (full-service, auto repair, tires).

DINING: There are several restaurants in Waldoboro, including the Captain's Fresh Idea (take-out & eat-in; seafood, dairy bar), Moody's Diner (on route one, moodysdiner.com), Bullwinkle's Seafood & Steakhouse (has a deck for dining outdoors), The Narrows Tavern (food & drink, eat-in/take-out), the Chinese Jade Restaurant (across from Moody's Diner on Rt. 1), Borealis Breads (has soup, sandwiches), a Dunkin' Donuts franchise (in part of a convenience store near Curves and Agren Appliance), and a Subway franchise (Rt. 1, across the street from Irving). Deb's Diner, in a small building on Rt. 1 near the Mobil station, sells burgers, chicken, salads, sandwiches, shrimp, spaghetti, wraps, and other food. It is open 7 days/week (Mon-Sat: 6am to 2:30pm, Sun: 7-11am).

OTHER BUSINESSES: There are a number of additional businesses in Waldoboro, including multiple banks (Union Trust, Camden National), a dentist (Denis Beaudoin Family Dentistry; Main St), the Wooden Screen Door Company, Moose Crossing Garden Center (on route one, has several greenhouses), Townline Chimney Services, Ralph's Mobile Homes, Maine Modular Homes, a flooring/paint store (near Dunkin' Donuts), N.E. Transport, Wink's Auto Service, a Chevy dealer, Car Quest auto parts, a daycare & pre-school, hair salons, Coastal Cobbler, a Curves franchise (excercise / fitness classes), Sheepscot Bay Physical Therapy, Evan's Sports Cards Collectibles & Unfinished Furniture (next to Townline Video), DePatsy's Lanes & Games bowling alley, a laundromat (near the pharmacy), an insurance agency, an income tax preparation service, multiple realtors, Miles Medical Group, Waldoboro Family Medicine, Midcoast Marine Supply, a memorial store, and a funeral home.

Other establishments in Waldoboro include a theatre (see waldotheatre.org), churches, a post office, a new library (opening soon), elementary/middle/high schools, a closed Osram-Sylvania lightbulb factory (production is to be moved to other states and the Czech Republic, according to the Boston Business Journal), a small town park, a public boat launch on the Medomak River, a former button factory (closed, next to the Medomak River), a grange, and a combined police/fire/town office.

Other towns in the area include Nobleboro (smaller, has some businesses and a flea market) and Damariscotta, which also has many opportunities for dining and shopping, as well as a theatre and a larger grocery store.
