Walgreens Opens Its Doors in Westbrook, Connecticut

Bishop Expects Ceremony in Early Summer

WESTBROOK - Friday, April 11, 2008 marked the first day of business for the new Walgreens Pharmacy at 1211 Boston Post Road.

The pharmacy allows residents in this shoreline community to no longer be forced to go to surrounding towns to get their prescriptions filled.

Walgreens celebrated a "soft opening" on opening day attracting curious travelers who saw the "Now Open!" banner.

The soft opening means the store initially opened without a grand opening celebration but First Selectman Noel Bishop assured that a "hard opening" will occur in the next month or two.

During that ceremony, Bishop expects several dignitaries will speak at a fifteen-to-twenty-minute ceremony.

Bishop said Walgreens is "doing what they can to integrate themselves into the lives of the community" and that after having discussions with the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce, he has learned that the chain has an excellent reputation in giving back to its community.

Other Middlesex County Walgreens stores are located in Clinton, Cromwell, and Middletown while a store under construction in Deep River is expected to open later this year.

The Westbrook store has a pharmacy drive-thru, online ordering, and digital photo pickup.

The store is open seven days from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the pharmacy is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
