Walk Vest: Will it Help ME Lose Weight?

Not Too Sure About This One!

The Walk Vest is a new device that is aimed at helping you add weight and resistance during a workout. The idea is great! It is something that you can wear, not have to worry about carrying additional items, and modify with additional weight as you become stronger. The system is comprised of a vest that you wear (sounds kind of obvious, huh!) which contains pockets where you add in weights. The package that is advertised on their website (http://www.walkvest.com/) includes the Walk Vest (available in 4 sizes), 8 half-pound weights, a beginners 20-minute "Walkout" CD, and an informative brochure.

So my first thought is what are the sizes? I am a pretty large woman, at almost 6 feet tall and have quite a bit of weight to lose (that is between me and God - no one knows my weight, ok!). But seriously, when I look at the "place order" screen, the XL-XXL is backordered. Yeah, duh!!! Most people that would want to utilize this "simple" method of exercising are like me...probably seriously overweight and quite voluptuous! I am not sure that the XL-XXL would even fit me! I don't usually fit into a double XL size in sweatshirts that I can pull down over my knees to stretch out (are you hearing me here!).

The cost is not too bad. $49.95 plus $9.95 shipping and handling, however, I could not get one even close to my size at this point because they are backordered! So, I am thinking, what would I do if I was able to get this Walk Vest. According to the snippet on the site, and the Mayo Clinic, "brisk walking burns as many calories as running that same distance". OK, so if I can burn as many calories walking briskly for 1 mile, what the heck do I need to pay $60 for?!?!

Alright, this article is supposed to outline how this could help me lose weight. Well, I am thinking ok? Let's see...here goes....

Wear it and Walk!

So if I had the time first of all, I could put on this Walk Vest that is too small for me, because I can only get a size XL-XXL, and take a walk. I live in a nice residential neighborhood, no crime, sidewalks. Sounds easy, so why haven't I taken walks already...brisk walks! Hmmm....could it be that I am a single Mom of two children, work a full time job, write for Associated Content and other online sites trying to make extra money, volunteer at my church, have a boyfriend, have a weekly bible study at my home on Monday evenings, go grocery shopping, do housework, do the laundry....etc, etc, etc. UGH!!! I am getting depressed writing this.

Save me from spending the $60 on junk food!

I guess if I spent the $60 on the Walk Vest, then I would feel guilty and use it. I would also have spent this hard earned money on something other than junk food. So right there, it is already helping me in my diet! It will also save me from having the junk food to eat as I get depressed writing about how I have no time to exercise in the first place....WOW! I need some help J

Nothing else

I am really trying to think of what else this could do to help me lose weight.

The fact is, that if I had the time to dedicate to exercise, I would. I would also walk if my free time was anytime other than 6am or 9pm! And from what the Walk Vest site indicates, I could burn just as many calories walking briskly as running...so I really don't need any additional devices to help me out....other than a Nanny, a maid, a chauffeur, and a dietician!
