Walk While You Work: The Latest Trend in the Life of a Busy Writer

Julie Boehlke
Since I've recently taken on this new gig of writing for Associated Content. I've had absolutely no extra time to fit in any exercise. I work over forty hours a week as a Secretary, which means I'm at my desk almost all day long and then I come home at night and write articles for AC.

In between my spare time I cart teenagers around, run errands and clean my house. I'm addicted to writing for AC and refuse to give that up.

On a negative note, I've slacked off a lot lately in the exercise department. I'm really getting more out of shape as the days go by and it scares the heck out of me! I tell myself every night Ill get up early and jump on my treadmill, but I always end up on my computer, researching or writing for Associated Content.

Today, to my amazement as I glanced at my Yahoo homepage, I noticed an advertisement on an new exercise invention called the "Walkstation" I fell in love immediately and thought my prayers were answered, until I looked at the price tag- a whopping $6,500.00! What a steep price tag to pay for beauty, that's enough for my daughters first semester college tuition, so forget it, not in my budget. But I do love the idea and think it will be in the homes and offices of many executives in months to come.

So exactly what is a Walkstation? It is a treadmill that has a desk attached to the front of it. On the desk is a space for your laptop, or keyboard and CPU.

There is plenty of space available for your mouse and any other materials you may need to place on the workstation. Basically you can have a brisk walk while you are surfing the web or finishing up your Associated Content Articles. I myself know I would use it, because I could utilize my time much better. I would be able to get my 30 minutes of light cardio in while not feeling like I'm neglecting my computer work.

Yes, the price tag is very steep at $6,500.00 but with the health boom in full swing and busy parents looking for ways to utilize their time more wisely, this could be the answer.

I think it could be easily introduced into to the mainstream workplace. There are many companies that pay top dollar for their employee's monthly gym fees. Having a Walkstation would drastically cut the yearly costs on sending employees to the gym to get their exercise.

Over time I'm sure the cost will come down a bit, therefore making it more affordable for the average consumer.

For me if I had the money I wouldn't hesitate on buying one. I do own a treadmill and I already read and watch TV while I walk.

Check out retailers soon for this new cutting edge equipment. Who wouldn't want to simplify their lives more? I doubt the price tag will hold back too many people, they can always crank out their plastic to pay for it. Americans are looking for simplification so they can multi task easier. Who can put a price tag on health and well being?

"Dear Santa: All I want for Christmas is a Walkstation I have been a very good girl this year, and I think I work hard for the little amount of money I get paid. I feel I deserve something special. If there is a Walkstation under the tree this year I promise to burn off all signs of love handles, thunder thighs, and to put an end to my motionless work environment. Love, Julz"
