Do's and Don'ts During Walking

Everybody says that walking is the best exercise. This is a great exercise that be accomplished by everyone. But there are certain things to be followed while you walk. Just keep these little things in mind to help you get better results.

Do's

  • Good posture is very important when you walk. Stand straight and put your shoulders back when you walk.
  • Swing your arms when you walk.
  • Sometimes you become lazy and would not feel like walking for a long distance so what you can do is, use an MP3 player or an iPod which will give you good entertainment, and will not make you feel tired soon.
  • Walking may cause cramps in some people. So, what you can do when it occurs is, place your hands on your head and begin breathing through your nose and leave it out through your mouth, do this at a steady rate, cramps will disappear.
  • There is no necessity to warm up before you start walking. But as you start stressing your legs, then you might require light stretching.
  • Try and get a companion when you go for a walk. When you have a co-walker you will have competition in walking, which will make you walk for a long time, and you will not know the tiredness as you will be immersed in conversation.
  • At least walk no less than 3 times per week, walking 6-8 times is not going to cause you any harm.
  • Fetch yourself a pedometer, where you can count the number of steps you walked. This will encourage you to walk for a long distance and walk regularly too.

Don'ts
  • Make sure you wear proper footwear while you go for a walk. Sometimes even sandals, or other fashionable athletics, do not support various muscles, joints and tendons on your foot, therefore causing strain and injury.
  • Do not forget to carry a bottle of water along with you. Because doctors suggest that you drink water during walks, whether you are thirsty or not.
  • Go for free hand walking, do not carry any extra weight with you while you walk, as the extra weight throws your gait out of balance.
  • You can carry a whistle or stick along with you to protect yourself from stray dogs, or unsavory people. Cell phones are also comes to rescue in such situations.
So by following these simple things you will not only make walking the best exercise, but also the most enjoyable one.
