Walkstation Brings the Treadmill to Your Computer

The success of the Nintendo Wii is making companies realize that consumers want to move around. They no longer want to sit on their butts and be labeled as couch potatoes. Exercise is something we all tend to need and it is being learned that video games can actually help us do this. Finally, the computer industry is starting to understand this pattern and have developed their own unique concept. The result was the creation of something that is simply known as the Walkstation. Welcome to the future of computer activity.

We all understand that playing or working on a computer requires and immense amount of sitting. You can become incredibly out of shape if you spend a lot of time on a computer. This requires you to constantly seek out ways to get your body in shape and remain healthy. The Walkstation combines the activity of working on the computer and walking. You now have the ability to walk, run, and type all at the same time.

The WalkStation was created by computer company Steelcase. They have created an enormous computer model that is quite unique. What they have done is combine the usual computer workplace with a treadmill. This allows you to simply walk or run while operating a computer. Current models show us that there is an opportunity for all the equipment to run off the same electrical line, but that is not the case right now. You will be required to hook up each unit as its own separate unit.

Developers are already thinking of ways in which they can tie the treadmill set-up into the computer use. One way in which they might be able to do this is through incorporating the treadmill with video games. There can be games developed that react towards the way you run and walk. This can increase your activity and provide easy opportunities for you to get exercise during periods of break.

The concept is well thought out and has a lot of potential. It almost sounds like something right out of a cartoon of the Jetsons. The characters in the show used to commute around their home via a treadmill set-up. This idea can get us off our butts while we are working. I tend to stand in front of my computer a lot because it provides me with comfort to my legs. No one should sit for a long period of time because it makes you feel greatly inactive. A price has yet to be set for the product because it is currently just a concept, but look for it to become a reality in about a year's time.
