Oliver Stone's Sequel Brings Back Gordon Gekko's Thirst for Money
Gordon Gekko, as played by Michael Douglas, was a sign of the times back in the heyday, grill-filled 1980s when stock traders were making millions of dollars. Back then there was a selfishness that had taken over and many businessmen took money and destroyed companies without breaking a sweat.
In some ways, now may be the perfect time for the return of Gordon Gekko. In the new film, Gordon Gekko has spent many years in prison and he may or may not be a changed man. Sure, his charm is still there, but in this movie it appears that he is trying to warn the financial community of the impending doom of the Great Recession.
The trailers for "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" are all over the internet. You can find the trailer at the official Web site at wallstreetmoneyneversleeps.com, at IMBd.com and at allmovie.com.
There are plenty of stars in this sequel, directed by Oliver Stone. In addition to Michael Douglas, there is Shia LaBeouf, Frank Langella, Susan Surandon, Charlie Sheen, Carey Mulligan and Josh Brolin. Find out more at IMDb.com.
Some people are fanatical about Gordon Gekko and his famous line about how "greed is good." But the times have changed since the 1980s, and changed dramatically since as recent as 2008.
The Great Recession descended upon us all and it came about because there were too few people sounding alarms about the systemic risks within the U.S. economy, and not enough safeguards to prevent what was almost a global financial meltdown.
The film "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" will get a lot of people talking again, but there were still be so many people unemployed and desperate that they will be in no mood for another dose of Gordon Gekko. Hopefully the film will portray Gekko a bit differently than before.

Great article. Well written.
Definitely want to see this. Michael Douglas is terrific. When Zeta-Jones leaves him for a younger man, I may volunteer to replace her. :-)
Can't wait for this one. Sorry I haven't been having more time to get around on AC lately.
I saw the previews for this..I may just wait until it is on cable.
