Walmart Pledges Silence on Release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
No Chatter Allowed at Registers on July 21
Fans across the globe have agreed that silence about the outcome of this final book is needed so all readers can enjoy the entire book without having someone spoil it for them. More than 8000 fans have already promised not to disclose the ending by making a pledge of silence at http://www.makethepledge.net/ , sponsored by Walmart.
All locations that have a 24-hour Walmart will host midnight parties for Potter fans on Friday July 20.That's 2900 midnight parties across the nation. The stores will provide storewide entertainment, new Harry Potter merchandise, and trivia challenges. Walmart associates and fans will be dressed as their favorite Harry Potter characters. Refreshments and giveaways will be available throughout the store.
As fans arrive at the midnight party, the store will sort fans into Hogwart's houses of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff with colored wristbands to guarantee a spot in line to purchase the new book. (A wrist band does not guarantee a book, but does guarantee you a place in line. Books will be sold until they run out.)
It's not only US stores that plan the vow of silence. Walmart stores in Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, and in the United Kingdom are taking part in the pledge, too.
Walmart encourages all Harry Potter fans to join in the fun in keeping the ending a secret so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the last book without someone spoiling the ending. Fans can take the pledge at either http://www.makethepledge.net/ or http://www.walmart.com/.
The pledge is also posted in Walmart stores across the nation near the book and stationary section.

That's really cool! I love Harry Potter! But I wonder what time they start all this stuff at?
Sounds like yet another ploy for Wal-Mart to try to salvage their degrading image, but it's an interesting angle.
mad but cool idea. I can't wait for the book, I feel like a little kid at Christmas :)
My husband is a huge HP fan. Good article.
