The Wal-Mart Supercenter in Cannonsburg is not one of the newer stores in the chain, that was apparent by the size of the store and it's quality. While the location is one of the supercenters, it is a store that was converted from a non-supercenter to include grocery items. When this was done the size of the store was not increased so to accommodate the additional merchandise. Instead aisles were moved closer together making it almost impossible for two buggies to pass in the aisles. This makes shopping in a crowded store very inconvenient. The floors are very dingy and the lighting is very dim. It has the feeling of being inside a cave.
In this store items were very difficult to find. I have been in other converted Wal-Marts and have had no trouble finding the items on my list, but this Wal-Mart seems to follow the "if there is an empty spot shove something in" philosophy. Items are poorly organized and the selection is less than spectacular. Many items I buy regularly cannot be found in this store. It is possible that everything was in the store, but one would never know given the lack of organization.
I was there late in the night and it was even more impossible to get through the aisles as the stocking crew had most of the aisles blocked. If I needed to get down an aisle I had to leave my buggy at the end of the aisle and carry my items back. Also the stocking crew failed to move out of the way until I had stood waiting for several minutes. I understand they have a job to do but making your customer wait is ridiculous.
The checkout lines were empty and checkout went relatively smoothly though the cashier was unfriendly and had some difficulty redeeming a coupon. Having customer service experience in a big box retailer I know the importance of customer service. Customers want to feel they have your undivided attention and that you are engaged in taking care of them. As a customer shopping in the Cannonsburg Wal-Mart I did not feel the least bit welcome.
For convenience this Wal-Mart is easy to get in and out of but because of the dismal atmosphere I will probably only shop there if I absolutely have to. Perhaps Wal-Mart should consider converting this store into one of there giant supercenters that are popping up all over the region.

Post a CommentThis store was NOT a converted store. I worked part time for the construction company when it was being built. It was to be the last of the small super centers. I remember the execs talking about it being the last small one when they came to visit the construction site.
At first it was great. But, since they did the remodeling they have gotten rid of a lot of items that I used to buy or they have very limited amounts of other items. They are constantly running out of the size of diapers I need for my babies. If that size is so popular why can't they just stock more? They block the isles at night with their boxes, and there are never enough cashiers. The household section (curtains, bedding, kitchen, etc) grew and the other sections almost disappeared. I was really sad the fabric section was removed. The lines for check out are ridiculous now! I can wait up to 40 mins just to get to the cashier and put my stuff on the conveyor. Then another 20 mins to get the items paid for....t
I personally have no problems with the Cannonsburg Walmart in particular. My problems are with the cashiers not being properly trained. I worked at a Walmart (as a cashier) in Denver for 7 months and know way more about the registers then those here who have worked there for years. The CSM's are horrible too. I had to wait 20 minutes just for stamps while they were having a conversation about their weekend plans.
I happen to think that the Cannonsburg Wal-Mart is easier to shop at and not as big and hard to find everything as the Asland store. It is much friendlier and I think it's the better store around the area.
Yes this was originally built with the grocery and compared to the one in Ashland and Southpoint they dont keep up with stock and even carring certain items that the others do. But its still very convenient for us who live close to it.
Actually, it is not very likely that the items you were unable to find were in the store. The Cannonsburg walmart is horrible when it comes to keeping items in stock. There isn't one time that I have been there that they haven't had at least one item on my list.
Also, Kevin is correct. This was one of the earliest supercenters...they only recently remodeled to fall in line with the newer walmart look.
I grew up in the area and remember when this particular walmart was built, and it was not a conversion. It was originally built as a supercenter, it was just a very early supercenter, so it's very small and cramped.
