Walmart Vs. The Dollar Store Which is Really the Best Option for School Supplies?

Mrs. Renee

During the back to school season stores will often compete with each other in order to get your business. Of course some stores like your local dollar store usually will keep your prices the same no matter what. Since Wal-Mart is also known to have some amazing deals, I decided to compare the two. Below you will the see the differences I found when comparing their school supply deals.

Notebooks and binders

When taking a look at two of the most popular back to school must haves, I would have to say that Wal-Mart won this hands down. First of all the dollar store never lowers their price below a dollar. They stay the same year round. When Wal-Mart put's their back to school items on sale you can get them for as low as $0.15 for a seventy page notebook. When it comes to the binders I found that you may be able to get the smaller ones for under a dollar but the rest will still be a dollar and change. Of course the binders at the dollar store may be a bit cheaper, but make sure you are getting quality binders. Some of the binders that I purchased at the dollar store ended up falling apart and did not last as long as I had hoped.

Glue, Pencils, and Tape

Once again Wal-Mart takes home the prize with the best prices for back to school against the dollar store. Wal-Mart always has an abundance to choose from when it comes to glue, pencils, and tape. At the dollar store it will cost you about a dollar for each individual glue bottle and the tape. A box of pencils will also cost you a dollar. At the dollar store I found that they do not have the good quality pencils, or tape, so if it is quality you are looking for, than stick with Wal-Mart.

Crayons and Markers

Crayons and Markers are must have items for those younger students. Usually these are items that you want to stock up on in abundance. Wal-Mart has these items for at least fifty percent less than the dollar store during the back to school season. You would have no problem loading up your cart with these items during the back to school season. Just be sure to get enough to last you for the first few months of school or for the entire year.
