Walt Daniels Qualcomm Stadium Accident

66 year old Walt Daniels fell a total of 25 feet on October 30 at Qualcomm Stadium. That day, Daniels was setting up for the Monday night football game between the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos. He had been a member of the staff at Qualcomm Stadium, and worked for the Chargers for over 20 years. Ultimately, Walt Daniels was a well rounded guy.

Since Walt was old, he had been walking with a cane for some time now. He ended up falling down a flight of stairs, and fell over the edge of the press box ledge. He was badly injured due to falling on stadium chairs, and concrete. Paramedics rushed him to Sharp Memorial Hospital after attempting CPR for several minutes. Unfortunately, he died Tuesday morning at approximately 2:30a.m., leaving behind his wife and two daughters.

In 1961, he would always be a referee in local football games between schools. His friends called him, "Mr. San Diego sports." He played football for Hover High school, and San Diego City College. He was always a real sports fan, loved to be around the game.

Charger Officials said, "Walt loved the team and loved working in the press box on game days for more than 20 years." The statement wrote, "Our prayers are with his family and friends during the most difficult time."

This incident is still being investigated by the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Walt "Daniels will be missed by those who are on, and off the field," says Courtney Dwyer.

I didn't personally know Walt Daniels, but from what I've researched on him, it sounds like he was a real contribution to our community, and to our Chargers team. I'd like to give a special thanks to everyone who participated in the effort of saving Daniels. As for his wife and to daughters, I hope they can recover from their great loss. You're in our thoughts and prayers.
