Walt Disney World for Couples

A Skim Guide to Finding Romance in "the World"

Shyviolet
When most adults think of Walt Disney World, they think of a place for children. But millions of people are starting to realize that it can be the perfect romantic getaway for adults too! Many people, I and my husband included, have begun taking what is called a "Disneymoon." Simply put, this is a Disney Honeymoon. For those of you thinking, "But what about all the children, won't they ruin the romance?" The answer is: NO! When my future husband I and began discussing plans for our honeymoon, the one place we both agreed on was Walt Disney World. We had both been previously and knew it would be the perfect destination for us. There are romantic resorts, activities, and plenty of quiet and romantic spots in the parks to share a smooch!

WHERE TO STAY

WDW has many resorts, there is one to fit nearly everyone's taste. The most romantic offerings will be in the Deluxe or Moderate Resort Catergories. My husband and I decided upon the Caribbean Beach Resort, a moderate resort. The resort is very spread out, but that also makes it seem less crowded. If you are looking for even more seclusion, request a room in the Trinidad South Village, it is the far corner of the resort but is so quiet and actually only takes about 5-7 minutes to get to the food court/main pool. This resort had tranquil beaches with hammocks where you and your honey can lay and watch the sun set or rise! It also offers hidden courtyards with beautiful folliage and cute seating areas to hide away and spend quiet time.

Other romantic moderate resorts are the Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter Resorts which both offer beautiful landscaping and New Orleans style charm without all of the hoopla. It should also be noted that these resorts offer a VERY romantic carriage ride in the evenings. It is not free but is very well priced and worth it for the memories.

WHAT TO DO

Don't let the abundance of children scare you....the parks can be very romantic. My pick for most romantic is EPCOT, specifically the World Showcase. What's more romantic than going around the world? Not only are there fabulous restaurants, but each country has all sorts of hidden places to explore and enjoy. Also, EPCOT is home to both the Food and Wine Festival(fall) and the Flower and Garden Festival(spring). Both of these provide added opportunites.

Don't underestimate the other parks as well. While Magic Kingdom may be thought of as the most kid oriented park, there are plenty of quiet garden areas where you can enjoy the sights. MK is also home to the WISHES fireworks most nights. What a beautiful way to end a day, by cuddling up on bench and watching this beautiful fireworks display.

Another fun way to spend some time together is by "resort hopping." This isn't sneaking into rooms at the different resorts...it is going to visit and enjoy the grounds. This is a great, relaxing way to spend an afternoon or a full day, if you like. Hop on board Disney transportation(monorail, bus or boat) and go exploring. Most of the Deluxe resorts have wonderful grounds that provide nice walks and scenery. Why not hop the monorail over to the Polynesian or Grand Floridian in the evening and sit on the beach and watch the Electric Water Pageant float by? Resort Hopping is not only relaxing and enjoyable, but gives you a great idea of resorts you might like to try out on your next trip! Because yes, there will be a next trip. How can you not get wrapped up in the magic of the world and want to come back and enjoy it over and over again.

OTHER THINGS TO DO

-Buy the Bride and Groom Mouse Ears...and wear them, you'd be surprised how many people, cast members and fellow park goers, will say or do something for you because of them.

-Pick up your free, wedding/anniverary/honeymoon button at Guest Services...and wear it!

-Pick at least a few table service restaurants to have nice, romantic meals at.

-Plan an anniversary trip back. For my husband and me, the planning began on the plane back home! Once you've experience how magical and wonderul WDW can be for couples, you'll want to come back and keep experiencing it.
