Walt Disney World Deluxe Accomodations for a Moderate Price

JK Fiorello
As summer approaches many families will be making their way to Orlando, Florida, to the fantastic Walt Disney World Resort. As a veteran visitor to WDW I have found a way of keeping the "M" in the Disney Magic by staying at Deluxe resorts through the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) without the long term financial investment.

Disney Vacation Club is a time share for specific deluxe properties with Disney Resorts. These properties include the Boardwalk Villas, Beach Club Villas, Old Key West, Wilderness Lodge Villas, and the Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa. These Deluxe resorts have their own themes and specialties that appeal to a variety of visitors at Walt Disney World. For those Disney enthusiasts a Vacation Club timeshare it is a wonderful way to experience the magic year after year. However, for those who only frequent Disney occasionally, then here is a way to experience the same magic with the comforts of home and the indulgence of Deluxe resorts.

DVC members receive the amenities as other guests to the resort, including the Disney Dining Plan. Accommodations can be a Studio room that sleeps four to a grand villa that sleeps twelve. Many rooms come equipped with a living room, balcony, full kitchen, bedroom, full bath, and televisions in each room. For a complete listing of amenities and room photos go to http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/index and click on the resort you wish to explore. How can a family enjoy all the benefits of DVC members without investing financially in the timeshare?

When a DVC member will not be using their allotted points for the year then they will rent them to non-DVC members at a cost per point. Some can be as low as $9 a point while the typical range is $11 per point. DVC members list these points for rent on the DISboard.com website, an official sponsor to WDW. One needs only to read over the messages of those who are willing to rent out their points. Now look on the DVC point chart, a link on the website, to calculate how many points you will need for your date of stay, length of stay, room view, and resort of choice. DVC members can make reservations for any of the resorts, though their home resort is usually the one they advertise. One must register the DISboard in order to post a request for points or to respond to a DVC member; there is no cost to join simply a registration and screen name.

An example for a stay at the Boardwalk Villas arriving on Sunday, September 9, 2007, for a one-bedroom vacation home (sleeps 4) with a standard room view would equal 162 points per week. It is more points to arrive on Saturday or Friday than on Sunday. Times that number of points by the dollar amount requested per point, average $11 per point, and you have a vacation home for $1782 for the week. However, a Studio room (sleeps 4) is only 85 points for the week with a standard view for the same time frame. A regular room studio rate at the Boardwalk Inn and Villas is listed at over $300 per night on the Disney World website; with the DVC points it is only $133 per night for 7 nights. Guests can be pampered by the amenities at a deluxe resort for the cost of a moderate-value resort.

We rented a two-bedroom villa at the Boardwalk Inn last November during the International Food and Wine Festival, and split the cost with another family that we were traveling with. The resort does have a maximum occupancy for each level of accommodation so be sure to check on this before making a commitment. Infants under the age of three are not included in the maximum occupancy.

All the amenities of a Deluxe Disney World Resort through the side door of the DVC can be a family's way of really enjoying Disney, and keeping the magic alive.
