Walt Disney World Opens Doors to Allow Gay Marriages

Dawn Fuller
Today it was announced that Walt Disney World would be letting same-sex couples use their Fairy Tale Wedding Program. This is great news for gay and lesbian couples who have dreamt of having that fairy tale wedding. This is adding more controversy for Walt Disney World with religious groups, however. They have condemned "gay days" at parks, which is something that Walt Disney World participates in. Southern Baptist boycotted the theme parks because they said that the parks violated moral and traditional family values. This boycott ended in 2005. Walt Disney World believes that every guest should be able to be involved in an inclusive environment.

In order to meet the requirement for a fairy tale wedding, Walt Disney World has limited the program to couples with valid marriage licenses. The company made the change after a gay couple, that wanted to use the wedding services at the park, contacted them. Ceremonies are offered at Disneyland in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, and on the Disney's cruise ships.

For couples that are looking at getting married in Disney World, there are many different packages you can choose from. Most of these packages include flowers, dining, music, and other extras. It also depends on the location to, as to what will be included in the ceremony. At Walt Disney World, couples can choose to get married at the wedding pavilion. For an extra fee you may exchange your wedding vows in front of Cinderella's castle. The more lavish packages include Mickey and Minnie who attend the wedding as guests and are dressed in formal attire. The wedding of your dreams is entirely up to the couple. Your fairy tale wedding can be customized to your liking.

Every person in this world should have the right to marry the one they love. It's great to see a popular attraction, like Walt Disney World, be supportive to everyone and support the rights of all. One can hope that other people and places will start coming around and be open and accepting of everyone's relationships. I look forward to the day that my girlfriend and I can walk down the aisle and show our love for one another, just the same as straight couples are allowed to. My hope is that in the near future everyone is allowed the same rights and equality as everyone else. I applaud Disney World and it's other locations for standing up and giving everyone an equal opportunity to be married. It is a place "Where Dreams Come True."

Awesome Disney. I plan on buying Disney stock because of this wonderful display of love for all people. I hope everyone rewards Disney by supporting them for this wonderful cause.
