Walter Cronkite was born Nov. 4, 1916, in St. Joseph, Mo.
Cronkite was the son of the Helen Lena Fritsche and dentist Dr. Walter Leland Cronkite. When he was 10, his family relocated to Houston, where he was editor of the San Jacinto High School newspaper. He later attended the University of Texas. In 1937, Cronkite joined the United Press wire service.
Cronkite served as a war correspondent in World War II, where he was stationed in North Africa and Europe. He covered the Allied invasion as well as the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, Cronkite covered the Nuremburg trials before taking his position at CBS. One of the defining moments of Walter Cronkite's career was his coverage of President John F. Kennedy's assassination. Cronkite delivered news of Vietnam, as well as that of the first walk on the moon.
Walter Cronkite reached millions of Americans, and will be sadly missed. He was not the face of a generation, but rather the face of many generations. He shared with the world the things that we could not see, or hear, or know, without him to share them with us.

This was one of those, 'Ah, no!" moments when you heard it announced. He will be sorely missed.
The world lost a treasure. Thanks for telling us more about this great man.
Such a loss. Thanks for sharing his bio with us.
It's sad to see the great ones go. Good article.
So sad! He was a legend :(
Great write up on an astonishing person!
It is sad to learn of his passing, despite his advanced years. If only the news today was broadcast as it was by this icon of journalism standards.
So sad. He was a legend in his industry. :(
He lived a long happy life thankfully. He was one of my journalism hero's. :-(
